Marilyn Wechsler

Marilyn Adele Wechsler, born in Brooklyn, NY, passed away on October 9, 2025. She was 94. Marilyn's legacy is one of boundless love, unwavering optimism, and a life dedicated to family, friendship, and learning.
Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Marilyn attended James Madison High School, where her vibrant spirit led her to be active in the booster club. She played the French horn in the school orchestra and piano at home.
After a year at Brooklyn College, she embarked on a career as a buyer for I. Magnin, an exclusive department store of its time. On August 17, 1952, at the age of 21, she married the love of her life, Milton Joseph Wechsler.
Marilyn balanced raising a family, being President of her local chapter of the National Council of Jewish Women, playing tennis, and her bridge game. Later, Marilyn would return to Brooklyn College to earn her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. She spent 20 years teaching 1st and 2nd grade in NYC public schools. She loved all aspects of being in the classroom and cherished the letters she received from parents whose children thrived in her care.
Her children, Emmet, David, Robert, and Andrea, were her world. She embraced their partners, Karen, Julie, and Marc, as her own. Marilyn will be remembered as loving, attentive, open-minded, and generous by her seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and countless other family and friends.
Marilyn and Milton's retirement was spent traveling and at their homes in Belle Harbor, Jersey City, Deerfield Beach, Haiti, and their beloved Adirondack community of Loon Lake where they were founding members of the Loon Lake Jewish Center. They spent their final years together with family in Connecticut.
She was predeceased by Milton, her parents, Emanuel and Aida Lillian (Cohen) Greenfield, and her brother, Edward Greenfield. Sisters-in-Law Mildred Scher Harmon and Florence Greenfield.
Marilyn left an imprint of joy on everyone she met. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held in July 2026 in Loon Lake, New York.
