Marilyn Young

Marilyn Moore Young, born on June 7, 1942, in Houston, Texas, peacefully passed away on March 24, 2024. She was the beloved wife of John W. Young Jr., and together they shared a life filled with love, faith, and cherished memories. A visitation for Marilyn will be from 5-7pm, rosary begins at 7pm, Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Strickland funeral home. The Mass of Christian burial begins at 10am Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at St. Mary Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Caldwell. The Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery.

Marilyn was one of three children, including her sister Myra and her brother Mike, born to Mr. T.D. and Myra Moore in Houston, Texas. Some of her fondest memories were made during summers spent with her beloved Granny in Hearne, Texas.

Marilyn and John joined their lives in marriage in August 1988, blending their families and creating a loving home for their five children.

Marilyn was a devoted mother who selflessly put her children's needs above her own. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, as she cherished her role as Granny to 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Professionally, Marilyn dedicated many years to serving Caldwell ISD as a School Business Manager. She was also deeply involved in the community, serving on the board of Texas Association of School Business Officials. However, her true passion lay in her unwavering faith.

Marilyn was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, where she found joy in participating in the Saint Rita’s Quilt Guild, St. Mary’s Women's Club, and Choir. Her compassionate spirit shone brightly through her acts of kindness, particularly in her efforts to make prayer quilts for those in need.

In 1991, Marilyn and John made the decision together to pursue the Deaconate program, a journey they embarked on hand in hand for John’s ordination.  Marilyn's faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through both joyous occasions and challenging times. She lived her testimony daily, trusting in God wholeheartedly.

Beyond her dedication to faith and family, Marilyn found immense joy in traveling and dancing with John and their friends. Their adventures together, whether in their RV or on the dance floor, created cherished memories that will be treasured forever.

Marilyn leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and compassion. She is survived by her devoted husband, John W. Young Jr., her loving sister Myra and husband Gerald Marsh, her three sons David Hancock and wife Irma, Paul Hancock and wife Shana and son James Scott and wife Jessica, her step son John W. Young III and wife Heather and step daughter Kristen and husband Nathan Bryan.  Marilyn’s grandchildren included Heather Jackson and husband John, Steven Hancock and wife Rochelle, Kevin Hancock, Cody Hancock, Claire Marie Scott, James Zachery Scott, Abigail Scott, Sophia Scott, Lincoln Bryan, Conley Bryan, Kyle and Jenny Burns, Shane and Bethany Burns, Lindsey and Andy Bachman, Kelsey and Bryar Goodwin, Sarah and Nick Cruz, Caroline Young, Graham Young, and Turner Young and 16 great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends who were touched by her kindness and grace.

She is proceeded in death by her brother Mike Moore, and grandson Grant Peimann.

Pallbearers are Steven Hancock, Kevin Hancock, Conley Bryan, Lincoln Bryan, Graham Young, Turner Young, Cody Hancock, and James Zachery Scott.

In honoring Marilyn's memory, let us carry forward her spirit of selflessness, love, and unwavering faith in God. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
