Marilyn Schuler Zur Schmiede
96, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Valdosta, Georgia, on January 4, 2026. She was born April 13, 1929, to Louis Joseph and Ida Zehnder Schuler. Marilyn graduated in 1947 from Jeffersonville High School. On July 15, 1950, she married Joseph Christian Zur Schmiede in Jeffersonville, Indiana. They subsequently moved to Indianapolis where she was registrar at a local trade school.
Marilyn was an active member of St. Michael the Archangel Church and served as president of the Women’s Club and as a volunteer at St. Michael’s School. She was later a faithful member of St. Luke the Evangelist Church. Her steadfast Catholic faith and devotion to family were evident to those who knew her. She was most at peace when tending her flowers and flawless lawn. Marilyn was an excellent cook, was charitable to others, and never knew a stranger.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann (Larry) Hilgert of Valdosta, Georgia and Mary Zur Schmiede of Indianapolis, as well as six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Marilyn is preceded in death by Joseph, her husband of 64 years; son, Joseph K. Zur Schmiede; parents, and 14 brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Malachy Catholic Church, 9833 E. County Road 750 N., Brownsburg, Indiana 46112 on January 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
