Madera, California. Born on June 22, 1930, in the beautiful city of Teocuitatlán, Jalisco, Mexico, Marina's life was a testament to her strength, determination, and the joy she found in the simplest pleasures.
The daughter of Agustin Hernandez and Maria Refugio Silva, Marina grew up in a vibrant household with her four brothers, Robert, Gregorio, Agustin, and Salvador Hernandez. She carried the warmth and traditions of her family throughout her life, creating a legacy of her own. While Marina was preceded in death by her beloved parents and brothers Robert, Gregorio, and Agustin, her spirit is carried on by her surviving brother, Salvador Hernandez.
Marina's life was enriched by her loving children, daughters Angela and husband Luis Santa Olalla of Fresno and Anna and husband Richard Encinas of San Diego, and sons Rafael and wife Elena Nevarez of Madera and Manuel and wife Leticia Nevarez of Madera. Her role as a mother was one, she cherished deeply, guiding her children with a gentle hand and a generous heart. Her family expanded to include nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom will profoundly miss her presence, her wise counsel, and her unconditional love.
Despite completing her formal education at the sixth grade, Marina's wisdom and intelligence were evident in all her endeavors. She was a hardworking individual, dedicating 50 years to farm labor, and was known for her resilience and steadfastness. Marina's commitment to her work was as unwavering as her commitment to her family and community.
A devout Catholic, Marina's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. She attended mass regularly at St. Joachim Catholic Church, where she found solace, community, and a deeper connection to her beliefs.
Marina's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. She had a deep love for gardening, finding joy in the blooming flowers and the fruit trees she nurtured with care. Her hands were rarely still, as she enjoyed sewing and crochet knitting, creating beautiful pieces that served as expressions of her love. Marina's love for dancing was infectious, and she could often be found swaying to the music with a smile that could light up a room. Cooking was another of her many talents, and she delighted in preparing meals that brought her family and friends together.
