Mario Pasin Obituary

Pasin, Mario A.

Mario A. Pasin, age 95, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025. He was the loved husband of Mary Kay (née Berigan); loving father of Mark (Mary Margaret), Therese (David) Brandenstein, Antonio, Paul (Jane), & Robert (Muriel Quinn); proud grandfather of Paul (Jenny), Mary (Kassi), & Miles Brandenstein, Helen, Henry, Oscar, & Linus Quinn Pasin, and Augustine (Moe) & Joy Pasin; great-grandfather of June; dear brother of the late Mary Ann (the late Steve) Contro & Jeanette Pasin Sloan (Jack Lemon). Born on February 6, 1930, in Oak Park, Illinois, Mario was the son of Antonio and Anna Pasin, both originally from Italy. From an early age, Mario experienced life both in the United States and in Italy, where he spent frequent childhood summers. Those trips gave him a deep appreciation for history, design, culture, and the natural world. He carried those sensibilities with him for the rest of his life. Mario attended the University of Notre Dame, where he completed a combined undergraduate and law degree. The years he spent there were among his happiest, a time he often remembered for its freedom, friendships, and growth. Mario met Mary Kay, the love of his life, and they married in 1959. Together they shared 66 years of marriage, raising five children. He was endlessly generous, deeply devoted to his family, and quietly proud of his role as a father of five, grandfather to nine, and great-grandfather to one. Mario led Radio Flyer, the company founded by his father, from the 1960's into the 1990's. Known for his humility and authenticity, Mario stewarded the family business with integrity, kindness and respect. He treated everyone the same regardless of rank or status, and his honesty often disarmed those around him. He believed deeply in quality, not just as a business principle but as a way of life. Outside of his professional life, Mario cherished time in nature. He transformed the family farm in Wisconsin from a working dairy into a restored natural sanctuary by planting thousands of trees and rejuvenating the land and lake. The farm was his favorite place. In later years, he also enjoyed time in Florida, where he walked, swam, gardened, and chaperoned his grandchildren on countless trips to the ice cream shop. His favorite part about the places he loved was sharing them with his family. Mario will be remembered for his patience, generosity, humility, and devotion to his family and community. He leaves behind a legacy of timeless values. Visitation 10:00am until time of Funeral Mass, 11:00am on Saturday, August 23 at St. Francis Xavier Church, 124 N. Spring Ave., LaGrange, IL 60525. Interment Bronswood Cemetery, Oak Brook. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mario's name to UNICEF, Doctor's Without Borders, and Habitat for Humanity are appreciated.

Yesterday

My thoughts, and prayers to the entire Pasin family. Though I only spoke with Mr. Pasin a handful of times, I always found him to be kind, genuine, and easy to talk with. Old school cool.
