Retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Marion Darrell Agard of
Tyler, Texas completed his worldly tour of duty on April 13, 2025, at the age of 89 years, 7 months, and 10 days.
He was born November 3rd, 1935, in Mound City, Kansas, to Marion David Agard and Mary Aleen Murray. Darrell was welcomed into a family of boys with brothers Eugene Agard and Don Richard Agard.
Darrell attended public school in Mound City, KS, enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1953. Darrell enlisted early and had to get permission from his parents who gladly agreed to a better future for him. He completed basic training at Parks AFB in California and served at Portland International Airport working on F-94, F-89 and F-102 aircraft for 11 years. He served in Labrador working in "Operation High Flight" sending aircraft over the ice caps to Europe. From there he served at Kadene AFB in Okinawa and worked on F-105s, Richard Gebaour AFB in Grandview, MO, to work on F-102s, and then to Saigon AFB in Vietnam, and finally to Tinker AFB in Midwest City, OK, after which he went to Ubon, Thailand to work on F-14s. Darrell retired from the US Air Force in 1973 after serving at Hill AFB in Clearfield, Utah.
One of many honors provided to Darrell was when his name was memorialized as a member of the flight crew of the static display F-105 on the grounds of The Woodring Airport, Enid, OK.
On September 26, 2022, The East Texas Quilter Guild presented Darrell the Quilt of Valor for his years of service to our Country.
Darrell relocated to Medford, OK, where he worked alongside his wife Anna in the family grocery business. Darrell also worked as a mechanic opening Agard's garage in Medford.
Darrell was united in marriage to Mary Ann Ayers in 1954. To this union four children were born: Nicki Lee Agard (Chaffee), Randy Eugene Agard, Carol Ann Agard (Wilkinson) and Jerry Duane Agard. Mary Ann was deceased in 1963.
In August,1966 Darrell was united in marriage to Anna Dorene Warren Westfall and added to the Agard family Teresa Ann and Craig Randall Westfall.
Darrell and Anna relocated to Chandler TX, in 1983 where he was actively employed at Wal- Mart and then delivered parts for a brake company. Darrell was an avid gardener, enjoying their pecan grove, raising chickens and goats and one fat donkey. Darrell had a dog with him at all times. They had recently moved to Primrose Retirement Center, Tyler Texas.
Darrell was a member of First Baptist Church in Tyler serving in various capacities, active in The CIA Sunday School Class, and enjoying his work in the food pantry.
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles, and brothers Eugene and Don Agard, and wife Mary Ann.
Darrell is survived by his wife Anna of the home, daughter Teresa Weirick and husband Rod of Mustang OK, Nicki and husband Arden Chaffee of Alva, OK, Randy Agard, Craig Westfall and wife Micah of Mustang OK, Carol Wilkinson of Boardman OH, and Jerry Agard and wife Ruth of Livingston LA, a daughter chosen with the heart, Marilyn Monk, of Chandler Texas. Honored by seventeen grandchildren and thirty-nine great-grandchildren, numerous community and church friends, he is also missed by Scout, his faithful dog.
Stewarts Funeral Home of Tyler will be in charge of cremation with interment in the Perkins, OK, Cemetery. A Memorial Service is planned for a later date. "Though his wings are now at rest, his honor continues to soar."
