Marion Ames Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home on Dec. 20, 2025.
Marion Grace Root Ames passed away peacefully at home on December 20, 2025. Born in Beaumont Texas on July 15, 1937, and raised in Vidor, she lived many years in Houston before returning to Orange to be closer to her grandchildren.
Marion had many gifts, mom was an excellent cook and loved to try new recipes. Mom sewed most of our clothes in the early years, but no one could tell because she was a perfectionist. She could paint a bird, a flower, or wall and all the trim - with precision.
Mom always had a garden even if it was tucked away in the corner of the yard. Mom loved nature, feeding the birds, fishing with friends, or picking up shells at the beach. Mom loved animals, she had many fur babies that she loved dearly. She passed her love of pets to her children and grandchildren.
Mom was many things to many people, she was a daughter, sister, cousin, wife, aunt, mother and friend. Mom was the bravest person that I have known, a fighter who survived cancer for eight years. She will be remembered for her love for family, friends, and the memories she leaves behind with those who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Scott Garvie; grandchildren, Tyler (Anna) and Kristen; and extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Helen Marie Redman Root and Herbert Clark Root; brother, William Henry Root; brother and sister-in- law, George Clark and Peggy June Root.
Cremation has been entrusted to Dorman-Riley Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 8808 Highway 87 North, Orange, Texas.
