Marion Cheek Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 16, 2026.
Ms. Marion Ann Cheek passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. She was born to the union of Marion Alfred and Mildred Sonora Boening in Galveston, Texas on July 4, 1946.

Marion was mission minded in every aspect of her life. She loved studying the Word of God and Praying with you. It didn't matter if you were a long time friend or a complete stranger repairing her ac unit, she would ask if she could pray with you, and pray right there with and over you. Marion served for many years with "Christian Record Braille" raising awareness and raising funds to support the blind community with materials and even personally transporting students to summer camps.

She loved writing poetry, foraging and studying nutrition and wellness in her spare time. Most of all, she loved her children, grandchildren and extended family. She will be missed, but we are certain she is resting in a better place, waiting for that day when she will be restored to perfect health and be rewarded for the life she lived and the God she faithfully served.

Ms. Cheek was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Alfred and Mildred Sonora Boening; her first husband Fred Maury Hasselmeier, III.; second husband Charles Cheek; and her brother, Richard Henry Boening.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Jerry Paul Hasselmeier, Carole Lynn Hasselmeier Cruz of Galveston, Texas; son-in-law, Alexander Cruz of Galveston, Texas; grand-daughter, Sarah Beth Hasselmeier; and her siblings, Raymond Alfred Boening of Manvel, Texas and Bruce Lee Boening of Galveston, Texas.

No services are planned for Ms. Marion at this time as she was cremated per her wishes.
