It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marion “Mom-mom” Clopein, a woman of endless love, deep spirituality, and joy. Born on December 4, 1936, to the late Thelma and Clarence Hartlove, Marion peacefully returned to the Lord on January 6, 2026. Throughout her journey of 89 years, she touched many lives with her compassion, devotion, and grace.
As a lifelong Baltimore resident, Marion met her late husband, Melvin Clopein Sr., in the local neighborhood in 1956. Together they started a family, becoming the proud mother of two children, Faith Barbour and Melvin Clopein Jr.
Marion’s career was defined by her long tenure as a Claims Supervisor at CareFirst, but her retirement was defined by her creativity and devotion to family. Whether she was traveling locally, lost in a good book, or meticulously working on a crochet or embroidery project, Marion lived her retired years with purpose and love.
Guided by her deep faith, Marion was a devoted parishioner of Saint Benedict Church. She was a vibrant presence in her community, lending her voice to the choir, participating in the Senior Club, attending Bible Study, and rarely missing a weekly bingo game or parish event. Marion remained close to her older sisters, Naomi Morris and Delores Brown, throughout her life. Always together, Naomi guided Marion through weekly jaunts to the church, local restaurants, and shops.
Marion’s memory will live on through her children, Faith and husband Ronald, and Melvin and wife Jenifer. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jason and wife Cescelle, Zachary and wife Arielle, and Olivia, as well as her great-grandchildren, Jordan, Greyson, and Makenzy. She will be greatly missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
Visitation services will be held on Tuesday, January 13th, and Wednesday, January 14th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Ambrose Funeral Home in Arbutus, MD at 1328 Sulphur Spring Road. A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 15th, at 10:00 AM at Saint Benedict Church in Baltimore, MD. Burial will follow at Loudon Park Cemetery. Following the interment, friends and family are invited to return to Saint Benedict Church for a repast.
