Marion Wilburn Holder, Jr. went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2024, at the age of 98. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. A native of Freeport, Texas, he moved to Port Sulphur, Louisiana at the age of six with his parents. He graduated from Port Sulphur High School and married Ethelyn Broussard Holder in 1951. They were married for 73 years. He is a veteran of the United States Navy who proudly served our country in World War II. After the war, he worked as a heavy-duty diesel mechanic for Freeport McMoran, fixing engines and boats until he retired at the age of 57. After retiring from Freeport-McMoran he trawled for shrimp on his boat, the Miss Et, named after his wife Ethelyn.
Marion is preceded in death by his parents, Marion Holder, Sr. and Edith McIntire Holder, sister Dorothy Reed (Jesse), and Phillip Keith Holder Jr. He is survived by Keith Holder (Ann), John Holder (Karen), Timmy Holder (Lisa), and Jimmy Holder (Glenda). Grandfather of Chris, Kim (Garen), Mike (Kylene), Beth (Ryan), Chris B., John M. (Michelle), Eric (Carlie), Barbara, Daniel, Chelsie (John), C.J., and Brandon. Also survived by 24 great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Parlor of MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway Harvey, LA on Saturday, September 14,2024 at 12 PM. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until service time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
