Marion Hughes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reid's Funeral Home - Dillwyn on Mar. 28, 2026.
Obituary For Marion Bartee Hughes

Marion Bartee Hughes, daughter of Harvey Bartee and Eleanore Bartee, was born on December 7, 1934, in Cumberland County, Virginia.

At an early age, Marion accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Zion Baptist Church, beginning a lifelong journey of faith and devotion to God

She was educated in the Buckingham County School System and graduated from Luther P. Jackson High School. After graduation, Marion relocated to New Rochelle, New York, where she met James Reed. The two were united in marriage and were blessed with three children: Melvin Wayne Reed of Florida, Frances Naomi Reed Watler of New York, and James Reed Jr. of Connecticut.

Marion continued to grow spiritually, joining the Assembly of God Churches in New York, where she deepened her relationship with the Lord and found great joy in her faith.

Committed to personal and professional growth, Marion furthered her education and earned her degree from Monroe College in New Rochelle, New York. She went on to build a successful career, working as an Administrative Assistant and becoming a longtime employee of the Nestlé Company in White Plains, New York. After the company relocated, Marion pursued new opportunities and was employed by the New York Power Company as a Legal Secretary, where she faithfully served until her retirement.

Marion was known for her warm smile, kind spirit, and compassionate heart.

She created a loving and nurturing home for her children and touched the lives of everyone she encountered

On March 21, 2026, God called Marion home to eternal rest-a place of peace.

Her love for her family was immeasurable, and her legacy of faith, love, and strength will live on.
