Marion Jo Ritchey Lockhart of Spartanburg, SC, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; Joseph Buren Ritchey and Marion Hines Ritchey, her sister; Rebecca Ritchey Rome and a brother Paul Ritchey.
She will always be remembered by her childhood sweetheart and loving husband of 65 years Delmos Lockhart. As a proud mother of two children, Donna (Jeff) Lazar of Wellford SC, and Bruce (Jan) Lockhart of Greer, SC. As a cherished grandmother to Cameron (Stephanie) Lazar of Overland Park KS, Megan (Andrew) Lazar Shelton of Spartanburg, SC, and Lauren (Chandler) Lockhart-Collins of Wake Forest, NC, and a treasured great grandmother to Cadence Westrup and Rhett Lazar.
A North Carolina native, Marion, was born in Buncombe County. She grew up in Polk County and graduated from Tyron High School. She received her BA from Appalachian State Teacher College and her Master’s Plus from Converse College. She taught in Spartanburg District Seven Schools for 31 of her 32-year career at both Park Hills Elementary and Jesse Boyd Elementary. Her ability to make learning fun and meaningful left a lasting impact—a positive influence on hundreds of children.
She was a faithful member of Fernwood Baptist Church and a member of the Alma Hudson Sunday School Class. Over the years, she taught Sunday School, worked in the church library and enjoyed nursery duty.
Marion was an exceptionally caring wife, mother and grandmother. She was gentle, warm, kind and compassionate. She loved the beach and traveling. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, quilting and listening to books. She adored Christmas, decorating for all holidays and seasons. But her biggest joy was spending time with her family, friends and neighbors.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Fernwood Baptist Church, officiated by the Reverend Michael Tutterow. The family will receive friends after the service in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
