Marion E. McGugan 93, of Cape Coral, FL, and a former resident of Naples died on August 12, 2024, under the care of Hope Hospice. A former resident of National Park, New Jersey, Marion moved to Naples, FL in 1993 and just 6 months ago moved to Cape Coral to be with her son, David, and his wife Sandra.
She was born on November 25, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA a daughter of the late Marshall and Alice (Richter) Bartels. After graduating high school, she began working at the Curtis Publishing Company in Philadelphia as a clerk. She eventually transitioned to a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her three sons. She loved to play bingo and cards with her friends, but she really enjoyed spending time with her family and her friends in the Quaker City String Band.
She is survived by her three sons, James J. McGugan (Patricia) of Philadelphia, PA, David T. McGugan (Sandra) of Cape Coral, FL and Michael J. McGugan (Nuala) of Swarthmore, PA; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild due to be born in September.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James G. McGugan who died in 2005, her four brothers, Marshall Bartels, Charlie Bartels, Harry Bartels, and Frank Bartels and her two sisters, Jane Hofbauer and Mary Soper.
Private services were held by her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Quaker City String Band 1943 S 3rd St, Philadelphia, PA 19148.
