Marion Delores (Long) Mullen, 90, of Carmel Indiana, passed away on August 11, 2024, with her best friend and love of her life John holding her hand, and surrounded by her family. Marion was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, the second child of Dennis and Nellie Long, both originally born in Ireland. She started her career at the age of 18 working for the New York Telephone Company.
Marion married John F. Mullen April 17, 1955 in New York. They lived in several different locations, finally settling in Carmel Indiana in 1974. During her early years of marriage, not only did she raise her family, but she also had a long career with J.C. Penney, retiring after over 25 years.
After John retired in 1984, from a lengthy career as a Special Agent with the FBI, Marion and John enjoyed significant time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They also had the opportunity to travel abroad, visiting family in Ireland and England and touring several other countries in Europe.
Marion and John were long time parishioners at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church where she belonged to the women’s club. She actively supported the Little Sisters of the Poor as it held a special place in her heart. She also enjoyed playing Bridge with neighborhood friends. In later years Marion cherished her time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved being a predominant part of their lives.
Together Marion and John raised 5 children, and they have 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her brother James Long 2003 and her son John T. Mullen in 2023, who is survived by his wife Therese and three sons. Marion is survived by her husband John and her children, Kevin D. (Sheri) Mullen, Joan P. Mullen (Michael) Kaster, Colleen M. (Joe Castillon) Mullen and Timothy F. (Kimberly) Mullen, grandchildren, great grandchildren and several cousins both in the United States and Ireland.
Marion will be remembered for her beautiful eyes, loving heart, fierce love of her family, infectious laugh and her incredibly sharp wit.
