Marion SCHAPS Obituary

Age 96 Recently of Litchfield, MN, previously of West St. Paul, called home to Heaven on June 18. Marion was a beloved mother, "Nana", aunt, neighbor, and faithful friend to many. Marion was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Nicholas, her son Nick Jr., son-in-law Ronald Sorenson and recently her dear friend Aileen Koenen. Survived by children Georgene Sorenson of Green Valley, AZ; Robert (Laurie) of Litchfield; Peter (Diane) of North Branch; Jamie (Joy) of Lindstrom; and Tony (Angie) of Saint Paul. Also survived by 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grand children, dear niece Carole Krier, and special friend Patti Walsh, both of whom provided so much love and care in Marion's final years. Marion was a woman of great faith and prayer who was always concerned about others and willing to help any way she could. She and Nick were married in 1945 when he returned from WWII service and they instilled in their six children great pride in America and strong faith in Christ. Marion was a fastidious homemaker and wonderful cook who enjoyed doting on guests and then engaging in competitive card games (which she usually won). Marion and Nick enjoyed several good years of retirement in Green Valley, AZ, where they were very active in the community (and golf). After Nick's passing, Marion stayed in Arizona for a few years, but moved back to Minnesota in 2004 to be closer to most of her grandchildren and dear friends. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, June 28, 2022, 11 AM at Church of St. Joseph, West St. Paul, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN. In lieu of flowers, Memorials Preferred - Marion was a monthly contributor to the Wounded Warrior Project. Funeral arrangements handled by Johnson-Hagglund Funeral & Cremation Service, Litchfield.

Marion's friendship was a beautiful gift which I will forever treasure. I will miss her impish smiles, classy style, cleverness, wit, faith, love and concern for her community and friends at Realife, and the genuine gratitude she had for the life she lived. Marion had the strength and determination
to live 96 amazing
years and enrich the lives of family and friends in so many ways.
God has Blessed You Marion.
Your Friend Always,
Pam Larkin (former manager of Realife W. St.Paul.)
