We sadly announce the passing of Marjorie Ann Batten, age 92 on November 26, 2025 at Heritage Fox Run.

Marge was born July 25, 1933 in Carson, IA the second child of Lynn and Vera Lehigh Achenbaugh.

Margie Ann grew up in Macedonia, IA and graduated in 1950 from Macedonia High School. She participated in all school activities and loved playing basketball as a forward, scoring many points for her team. She spoke fondly of growing up in Macedonia, attending school, worshiping at the Methodist Church and working at Dye Store.

She married her high school sweetheart Galen Edward Batten on March 4, 1951 while Galen was in the Navy. They bought a farm East of Carson and resided in the Carson area 63 years. Along with being a busy farm wife, they raised four children Cindy, Eddie, Johnie and Julie. She worked part time at the Carson Bank, helped Galen with their Batten BBQ Catering business and also worked as janitor at the Macedonia School. She was a member of the Carson Methodist Church and was their Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She was patriotic and was a devoted 50 plus member of the Carson American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed writing down and trying new recipes and made the best homemade noodles and potato salad. Her daily thoughts were written in a notebook, along with poems, clever stories, Bible verses, political news and what went on in her life each day. She was an avid viewer of MSNBC news, enjoyed Christmas Hallmark movies, a cold Pepsi and having a pet to take care of. She loved taking care of her family and really enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they came to visit.

Marge weathered many tragedies throughout her life, including the loss of her son Ed and a fire that destroyed their home a few months later. Her strong faith in God helped her endure.

Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Galen in 2011; son, Ed; her parents, step-father Chet Davis; sister, Nancy Schroder and husband Richard; sister in law, Juanita Achenbaugh; great grandson Hunter. Also preceded in death by Galen's family: Ray and Sylvia Batten, brothers in law, Marlin (Phyllis) Batten, Glen (Marge) Batten, Wayne Batten; sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Reggie) Pendegraft, Wilma (Joe) Lewis, Lois (Don) Corbin.

She is survived by her children, Cindy (Don) Haack, Johnie (Elizabeth) Batten and Julie (Brian) Tippery; brothers,

Batten and Harper Riley; aunt, Carol Lehigh Sowers; life long friend, Mabel Grout, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank The Heritage at Fox Run Memory Support and Hillcrest Hospice for their kindness in caring for Marge.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials in her name to the Macedonia Historical Preservation Society, the Carson Fire Department, or the Dreamland Theatre. These three organizations reflect the community she loved so dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at the Carson United Methodist Church, Carson, IA.

Marge and Galen will be buried together at the Carson Cemetery, Carson, IA at a later date.
