Marjorie Fern Cooper, known affectionately as Marj to most and G.G. by her loving grandchildren, was born on April 14, 1937, in Belknap, Kansas, and passed away on October 29, 2025 in Arkansas City, Kansas at the age of 88. A resilient and loving woman, Marjorie was treasured by her family and all who knew her.
Her resilience was inherited from her early years spent in Sedan, Kansas, having grown up through the struggles of farm life after the premature passing of her father in an airplane crash. This resilience saw her through life, and she became a beacon of strength for her family. Marjorie spent the majority of her life in Cedar Vale after marrying the love of her life, Kenneth Cooper, on May 24, 1955. She spent many years in the administrative office of Caney Valley Electric Coop. Later in life, she enrolled and graduated from Southwestern College with a Bachelor's in Social Work. As a testament to her supportive and thoughtful nature, Marjorie then served as a Social Worker for the SRS Office in Winfield, Kansas where she specialized in monitoring day care centers statewide. She was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church for most of her life and later attended the Caney River Cowboy Church. Her love for the Lord was evident in her daily life as she cherished reading her Bible and attending Bible studies. She knew Jesus as her Lord and looked forward to being with Him.
Marjorie was a woman of many interests. She was an avid reader, with Belva Plain being her favorite author. She and her husband Kenny shared a love for camping and trips to the lake, making memories travelling around the country, including a road trip to Alaska. They also made annual trips to both Colorado and Florida. Above all, Marjorie loved being a grandma, or G.G., to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each one was special to her and she looked forward to sending them all birthday cards and even had a knack for getting them to arrive on their actual birthday. Marjorie's legacy of resilience, love, and faith will continue to inspire and comfort us all.
Marjorie is survived by her devoted husband, Kenneth Cooper of Cedar Vale, Kansas; son Lonnie Cooper and wife Ruth of
Wellington, Kansas; son, Rick Cooper and wife Dina of Cedar Vale, Kansas; son, Chris Cooper and wife Vicki of Clearwater, Kansas; sister, Elizabeth Kerr and husband Norman of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Kim Cooper, Kristin Ledesma and husband Samson, Kevin Cooper and wife Valerie, Jesse Cooper and wife Jamie, Jason Cooper and wife Vicki, Thomas Cooper and wife Piper, John Cooper and wife Dynae, Mark Cooper, Sarah Luckner and husband Gavin, and Samantha Kile and husband Dayton; nineteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Stewart, and her mother, Esther Stewart; sister, Dorothy Talbot; a stillborn sister, Katherine; and two great-grandchildren: Catherine Cooper and Ryka Cooper.
