Marjorie DeCesari Obituary

Marjori Elsie Decesari

Oakpark - Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Marjorie Elsie DeCesari passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 12, 2020, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and COPD. Known to her friends as Margie, her parents were James H. and Elsie V. Davis. She was born on January 23, 1934, in Kansas City, MO, and was 86 years old. She was a resident of Port Hueneme & Oxnard for 60 years.

She was the youngest of her five siblings - 3 sisters and 2 brothers (all deceased). During the Great Depression, Margie moved around different states while her father worked as a master carpenter. Her family eventually moved to Ridgecrest, CA when her father found work at the China Lake Naval Weapons Base constructing military housing. While living there, she met a young navy enlisted man, Harold, and they soon married. While living in Ridgecrest, their first daughter, Pamela, was born. Harold became a flight engineer and was transferred to Atsugi Naval Air Base outside of Yokohama, Japan, where their son Stephen was born. Cheryl, their youngest daughter, was born after they transferred back to China Lake in 1956. Margie and Harold lived there for about a year after which Harold was transferred to Pearl Harbor, HI. (So much for the life in the military) After 4 years, Harold was transferred to Pt. Mugu, CA where they bought their first house in Port Hueneme. It was here that they decided to make their permanent home when Harold planned to retire from the Navy in 1967.

While living in Port Hueneme, Margie worked for the General Telephone Company as a telephone operator; McMahon's Furniture as an Office Manager; and then worked 20+ years as a condominium property manager managing over 20 HOA's when she retired in the late 1990s. She also volunteered at Santa Clara Catholic Church for about 30 years as a bookkeeper and Eucharistic Minister, only retiring when she could no longer drive several years ago.

Margie found her faith in Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church in 1970 when her oldest daughter, Pamela, was tragically killed in a car accident when Pamela was 19 years old. Her faith and friends were able to sustain her and also helped tremendously when her youngest daughter, Cheryl, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 42 from an undiagnosed medical condition. Margie lost her husband of 53 years to ALS in 2003 and her faith, family, and friends were again there for her.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents, 5 siblings - Ruth, James, Esther, Sally, & Richard, her two daughters - Pamela & Cheryl, and husband, Harold. She is survived by her son, Stephen (wife Hilary), grandson, Geoffrey (wife Christine), granddaughter, Janelle Anderson (husband Torrey), great-granddaughter Samantha DeCesari, great-grandson Stephen Daniel DeCesari and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind dear close friends Lynn & Jack Moore, Teri Delgado, Linda Ramirez, and Clare Fritzen.

The family would like to thank, recognize and forever remember the caring staff at Belmont Village Assisted Living Memory Support, especially Frieda her private PAL caregiver; LVN Jackie from Assisted Home Health Care; Assisted Home Health Hospice Care; Susie Fernandez from Visiting Angels; Julie from Home Helpers; and Monica at Santa Clara Church.

Family and friends are invited to a Mass of the Christian Burial to be held on Tuesday, December 29th at 12 noon at the Santa Clara Church, 323 South 'E' Street, Oxnard in the parking lot behind the Santa Clara Elementary School. Interment will immediately follow at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery, 2370 N. 'H' Street, Oxnard. Due to Ventura County Covid guidelines, masks and social distancing are mandated and there will be no reception at this time. The service will be live-streamed at https://www.reardonfh.com/obituary/Marjorie-DeCesari.
