Marjorie Greene
Date of Death: November 20, 2024
Ames, Iowa
Marjorie "Marge" Lou Greene (Blackburn) passed peacefully surrounded by family in Ames, Iowa on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, three days shy of her 92nd birthday.
Marge is survived by her son Charlie (Ellen) Greene of Justin, TX; five grandchildren: Bryan (Yuki) of Culver City, CA, Tracy (Eric Peters) of Boone, IA, Trisha (Josh) Cornwell of Iowa City, IA, Jason (Ashley) of Des Moines, IA, and Natalie (Jordan) Veach of Johnston, IA; along with seven great grandchildren: Isabella, Sofia, Mariana, Lillyann, Alejandro, Koan, and Rosetta.
Marge was born on November 23, 1932, in Iowa City, Iowa to Charles and Kathryn (Kitty) Blackburn. Growing up the youngest of 11 in Jefferson, Iowa, Marge had a fiery reputation. In 1950, she married Bryan "Gene" Eugene Greene of Grand Junction, Iowa. Together, the couple welcomed two children, Charlie "Rick" and Cindy Lou.
In 1958, Marge and Gene moved to Ferndale Avenue in Ames, Iowa, where she spent 65 beautiful years making memories with friends and family. Marge was a force behind the meat counter at the West Ames Hy-Vee, retiring after 23 years of service.
Marge was passionate about her many hobbies: roller skating, camping, yard work, and spending time with her family. She often indulged in a sweet treat or smoke as she soaked up late nights of fishing, swiping through her tablet, or reading romance novels. She was a dedicated and passionate individual who loved to get involved with clubs like the Pythian Sisters, Daughters of the American Legion, and her camping club, the Skeeter Scratchers. Marge was one heck of a dancer, lovingly referred to as "Swivel Hips-Hulihan" with a magnetic style that pulled everyone onto the dance floor with her.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Kitty; her siblings: Cleta, Samuel, Margaret, Roger, Roland, Kathryn, Marian, Darrell, Richard, and Robert; her husband, Gene; and her daughter, Cindy.
Her children and grandchildren remember her as a loving mother and grandmother who encouraged them to fight for what they want, love fiercely, and dance any chance you can.
Services will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Slininger-Schroeder Funeral Home in Jefferson. The family will visit with friends at 2:00pm Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a 2:30pm prayer service, with Rev. Dennis Martens of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in the Jefferson Cemetery.
