Richard (Dick) Keith Whitver, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, completed his life's journey on October 17, 2025.
Dick was born the second of six children to Robert "Bob" Whitver and Viola "Vicki" (Ludwig) Whitver on April 28, 1952 in Jefferson, Iowa. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1970 where he was involved in FFA and football. He was a member of the T & I program and worked for Parker Industries in 1968. He started in the factory area manufacturing wagons and then advanced to driving a semi, delivering wagons throughout the Central United States. He remained at Parker Industries until 1975 when he started to farm and work part time for F & D Construction. He retired from farming in 2000 and soon after started a career with John Deere at Des Moines Ankeny Works until he retired in 2018. Dick continued to help Mike Bravard during harvest for several more years. After John Deere, Dick worked as a patient transporter at Greene County Medical Center and also volunteered at the Greene County Action Resource Center.
Dick was married to Jan on April 18, 1980 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jefferson. Two children were born to this union: Ben and Megan. Dick enjoyed being with his children and taking vacations every summer. One of his favorite trips was to Alcatraz Prison in 2018. He also spent a lot of time with the Whitver clan and Jan's family. He was very dedicated to attending as many activities as possible for all three groups. After retirement Dick enjoyed his daily routine of walking the streets of his neighborhood, walking at Daubendiek Park, visiting with the employees at the Hy-Vee gas station and visiting with his postal carrier. Dick was raised with a strong faith in the Catholic Church and continued to embrace his faith throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Vicki and Bob Whitver; in-laws, Karma and Donn Hennigar; niece, Jessica Whitver; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Whitver.
Dick leaves his wife, Jan; his two children: Ben of Boone, IA and Megan (Scott) Mumper of Boone, IA; his sister, Sue (Dave) Weiss of Mount Pleasant, IA; brothers: Tom of Story City, IA; Gary (Laura) of Gettysburg, PA; Ed (Deb) of Grimes, IA; and Brian (Jody) of Le Mars, IA; brother-in-law, Jeff Shorey of Waupaca, WI; sisters-in-law: Sheryl Peterson (Mark Meserole) of Jefferson, IA; Connie (Peter) Elliott of Fort Worth, TX; Kris Carrick of Jefferson, IA; Ranae McDermott of Wilmington, NC; and Brenda Holke (Jerry Eng) of Austin, TX; many loving nieces and nephews and an extended family of friends.
Memorials are suggested to the family to use at their discretion (700 South Oak Street, Jefferson, IA 50129).
