Margie Meadows Mackey died in the early morning of September 15th, with her beloved daughter and family by her side.

Born in Hartford Connecticut, most of Margie's childhood was split between living with her parents in White Plains, New York and with her grandparents in Ohio.

A force to reckon with, Margie was a hard worker, a single mother for several years, and a fiercely opinionated woman. A girl scout who became a girl scout leader, she believed in women's rights long before it was fashionable, a trait she passed along to her daughter and granddaughter, Sarah. She cared deeply about others, which came to life through her kindness, generosity, and activism. A passionate believer in peace, she participated in silent protests on the beach in Naples, by wearing black and sitting quietly.

Creativity was in Margie's blood. As a girl and into her final days, Margie was an avid sewer and knitter. In the 70's she taught herself macrame and in later years she became an expert at needlepoint. Her home in Orchid Terrace overflowed with many of her pieces which include beautiful wall hangings and pillows.

What many people remember about Margie is her quick smile and a readiness to laugh. She loved to crack a joke, she loved her family, and she loved Adam.

Margie met the love of her life at the Congregational Church in White Plains, where they both sang in the choir. When they married in 1988, her family expanded to include Adam's three daughters, Adair, Elizabeth, and Heather. After making a home in Hawley, Pennsylvania, they later bought a condo in Naples, and eventually made Florida their permanent home.

Margie survived Adam by 12 years, but Adam always remained in her heart. She even moved into the same apartment in Orchid Terrace, after he passed, so that they could be together.

Now, they are together forever.

Margie never really knew how much of an impact she made on the lives of the people she touched, but her quick wit, her easy laughter, and her tender love are qualities that her friends and family treasured and will deeply miss. The world is a touch less bright without her, but she is peaceful now. She is survived by her daughter Linda, her stepdaughters Adair, Elizabeth and Heather, along with eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
