Marjorie Olson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home - Oberlin on Mar. 30, 2026.
Marjorie Myrth Olson, 92, passed away on March 27, 2026 in Fountain, Colorado. Marjorie was born on August 15th 1933 to Owen Stanley Vernon and Alice Jeanette (Peterson) Vernon in Oberlin, Kansas.

Marjorie was a life-long resident of Oberlin, Kansas raised in Oberlin and graduated from Decatur Community High School in 1951. After high school Marjorie worked at Duckwalls on Main Street.

Marjorie met Harold Olson through a pen pal network while Harold was in the Air Force and stationed in France. They were married at the Federated Church in Oberlin on July 1st 1955. Marjorie was a homemaker through the growing years of her children Connie Jo, Bruce and Ward. She attended every school event and ball game through their growing up years and was a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader for several years. Chocolate chip cookie baker, devoted church member, dedicated mother, grandmother & great grandmother were all titles she wore proudly. Her grandchildren remember her as a "savage gamer" often winning at Joker and Chickenfoot.

In 1978 Marjorie joined the "Court House Girls" working in the County Clerk's office as a secretary. She cherished memories of those years and spoke of her co-workers often. In 2017, due to health reasons, she moved to Fountain to be closer to family. She so enjoyed the frequent visits from her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, and kept in touch with many longtime Oberlin friends by phone and mail.

She is survived by her children Connie (Jimmie) Modlin, Bruce (Carmelita) Olson, Ward (Janet Cederberg) Olson, nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren along with cousins Virginia Casper and Robert Vernon.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Harold. Also, her parents, brothers: Ralph and Rex; in-laws: Raymond and Esther Carlson, James and Dorothy Jackson; niece: Joyce (Bob) Hartzog who were very special help before her move to Colorado.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home at 11:00AM. Visitation will be from 9:00AM-11:00AM. Burial will be in the Oberlin Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made out to the Decatur County Museum. Condolence can be left at www.plumergobber.com.
