MARJORIE BERNICE PARENT (née CARLSON)
October 15, 1922 – October 22, 2025
Marjorie Bernice Parent (née Carlson), age 103, of New Lenox (formerly of Hazel Crest), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Sunny Hill Nursing and Rehab in Joliet, Illinois.
Born in Chicago to the late Robert and Anne (née Kinsella) Carlson, Marjorie lived a life defined by faith, family, and kindness.
She was the beloved wife of the late Henry W. Parent Sr. and the loving mother of David (Diane) Parent, Rose (Steve Lundy) Behney, Carol Ann (Raymond) Ducett, the late Henry W. Parent Jr., and the late Charles Parent. She was a cherished grandmother of 15, a proud great-grandmother of 22, and a devoted great-great-grandmother of 8.
Marjorie was the dear sister of Evelyn (late Alfred) Ledder, Gloria (late Donald) Wentz, the late Dorothy (late Edwin) Harvey, the late Rosemary (late Robert) Ducett, and the late Robert Carlson. She was a beloved aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Marjorie also carried in her heart the memory of two beloved granddaughters, Linda Ducett Zweifel and Courtney Behney, whose lives she treasured deeply and whose spirits she now joins in eternal peace.
A devoted Catholic, Marjorie found strength and peace in her faith throughout every chapter of her long life. She dedicated many years to St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Hazel Crest, where she worked lovingly in childcare and as a teacher. An artist at heart, she found joy in painting and was especially fond of lighthouses. With a sharp memory and a storyteller’s heart, she often shared vivid tales of her life—including her experiences during the Great Depression and World War II. Her life was a masterpiece of faith, resilience, and love, and her family will miss her terribly.
The family will receive friends at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Rd., New Lenox, IL, on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, beginning with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 241 W. Second Ave., New Lenox, IL. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Alsip, IL.
Those who knew Marjorie will remember her ready smile, her deep faith, and the immeasurable love she poured into her family and friends. Her century of love and laughter remains the greatest gift she gave us all. She will be missed beyond words and forever cherished in our hearts.
