Marjorie V. Pitcher, 73, of Walhalla, ND, passed away at home on December 10, 2025. A memorial service is being planned for a later date in the summer.
Marj was born on October 2, 1952, to Robert and Theisla (Lemm) Belanus, the second of three daughters. She was raised on the family farm north of Walhalla. In her early years, she attended the Coburn one room schoolhouse. When the Coburn school closed, she attended school in Walhalla, graduating from high school in 1971. After high school, Marj attended NDSU-Bottineau where she earned her teaching degree in Home Economics (later known as Family and Consumer Sciences). After earning her degree, she spent time teaching in Bowman and Munich, ND before settling back down in Walhalla.
In June of 1984, she married Robert Pitcher. In October of 1985, they welcomed their only child, Carrie. After a several year hiatus, Marj returned to teaching in the early 90s, first working as a substitute teacher before becoming the full time Family and Consumer Sciences and high school health teacher in Walhalla. Besides teaching and tutoring, Marj was an active leader for both FCCLA and 4-H for many years. She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, 3-H Homemakers Club and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
After her retirement from teaching, Bob and Marj enjoyed spending their winters in Las Vegas, NV. There she enjoyed spending time with family, trips to the casino with her sister, Barb, and became an active member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church. Marj was an avid reader, a skilled baker and always loved getting together with her extended family.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Walhalla, daughter, Carrie (Brenda Deplazes) of Grand Forks, ND, sister, P. Jennie (Allen) Streightiff of Franktown, CO, aunt, Jessie Urlaub of Walhalla, ND, five nieces, eight great-nephews, two great-nieces, two great-great-nieces, one great-great-nephew, several godchildren, numerous cousins, and honorary nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Percy and Viola Pitcher, sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Irving Klein, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Loretta and Robert Dixon, five uncles, six aunts, one great-nephew and several other extended family members and friends.
