Marjorie Elizabeth Small Galley Plummer, 106, of Fort Valley, VA passed away on Friday June 9, 2023, at Blue Ridge Hospice in
Winchester, VA.
Marjorie was born on January 22, 1917, in Providence, RI and was the daughter of the late Charles and Grace Babcock Small. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, George Elton Galley in 1976 and by her husband of 25 years Robert Plummer in 2011 and her sister Leora Bolsius. She attended school through part of 12th grade until she had to leave to support her parents during the Great Depression worked in the jewelry district in Providence RI. She continued working here until she married George and became a housewife. The family moved to Scituate, RI where she dedicated her life to her husband and daughters and once, they were grown she became a caregiver to others. She was a cub scout leader and ran the Scituate Baptist church nursery for 15 years, where she was a lifetime member. She loved camping, dancing, and most of all her family. Her faith in the Lord carried her through all the challenges that a lifetime lasting 106 years could include. She lived through WWI, Spanish Flu Epidemic of 1918, the Great Depression, WWII, Polio Epidemic, Korean & Vietnam Wars, and the Covid Epidemic of 2020.
Marge is survived by her daughters Linda Gardiner (Bill), Lauren Kadel, and step daughter Lynne Watterson (Dave) and her grandchildren Michael Gillardi (Nancy), Deneene Boucher (David), Steve Kadel, Vicki Burner (Barry) and Andrew Watterson, 10 Great Grandchildren and 7 Great, Great Grandchildren with one on the way, and many nieces and nephews and her beloved cat Sonny.
Marge loved to stay up to date on the news and was an avid watcher of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and answered many of the questions before the actual participants. She was a lover of books and was often reading two at the same time, completing at least one per week up until three weeks before she passed. She loved sneaking extra treats to her cat Sonny. She loved gardening and was still canning her harvest until age 105. She lived on her own until age 102 when she fractured a hip causing her to walk with only a cane. At that time, she moved to Virginia to live with her daughter Laurie, and great granddaughter Kayla & husband Chris and great, great granddaughters MaKenna and Haven which kept her young, active and happy. She was a snowbird in
Melbourne, FL and enjoyed cornhole, dominoes, and daily Happy Hour with friends.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who ever knew her. There will be memorial services at a later date in Virginia, Rhode Island and Florida. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice 333 W. Cork St, Suite 405,
