Marjorie Smith Obituary

Marjorie "Margie" A. Smith

May 26, 1932 - January 18, 2026

Marjorie A. Smith, age 93, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was a kind and loving woman whose life was centered on her family, her faith, and caring for others.

Marjorie, known lovingly as "Margie" to family and friends, was born on May 26, 1932, in Hamler, Ohio, to George and Mabel Sager. She graduated from Hamler High School and later came to Toledo to attend cosmetology school. Margie married the love of her life, George Smith, May 8, 1954, and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on March 9, 2009. During her career, she worked at LaSalle's and The Vogue before retiring to devote herself full-time to her family. Her greatest joy was being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, taking great pride in caring for her loved ones.

Margie loved cooking and baking, and every Sunday her family gathered at her home for a delicious home-cooked meal. Her home was always welcoming, a place where family and friends felt comfortable, loved, and well taken care of.

She enjoyed traveling, playing cards with friends, attending estate sales, taking care of her large yard, and visiting the casino. She was always lucky!

Margie's life can be summed up in three words: faith, family, and friends. These values guided her every day and were evident in how she treated everyone she met. She was a devout Catholic whose faith was deeply ingrained in her life.

She is survived by her children, Pam (Royal) Barber, Debi (Kevin) Reilly, Kevin (Kim) Smith, and Joni (Jeff) Owens; her grandchildren, Mike (Debi) Barber, Tom (Erin) Barber, Jeni (Brian) Fortenbury, Nicholas (Jenn) Reilly, Brad (Brooke) Reilly, Kevin Reilly, Bri (Ben) Gelhaus, Brittany (Tony) Cerasi, Corey Smith, and Jenna Owens; and her great-grandchildren, Ophelia, Evelyn, Jack, Dylan, Elliott Marie, River, Ridge, Brody, Zoey, Jake, Shay, and Reid. She is also survived by her brother, Donald Sager; and sisters-in-law, Sandy Sager and Janet Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, George; her brother, Bill; and her sisters, Helen and June.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio, on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m., during the visitation. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, Toledo, Ohio. A burial will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park, where Marjorie will be laid to rest.
