Marjorie Ann Williams (Young) went to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the age of 92. She passed peacefully in Gloucester, Virginia. She was born to George Young and Mabel Benner Young on September 21, 1932, in Lynn, Massachusetts, where she grew up with one brother and four sisters. After high school, she met and married Clarence Halbert Williams while he was serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War. She lived for a time with his parents in North Carolina before the couple relocated to Newport News, Virginia, where they raised three sons: Clarence, Jr., better known as Willie, Doug, and Barry. Marjorie worked for 25 years as a bus driver for Newport News Public Schools, particularly enjoying her band runs. After retiring, she continued to live in her beloved home at the corner of Shannon Drive. She was a devout Christian and loved her Sundays at Menchville Baptist in Newport News. A master baker, she made those around her feel special with the many treats she created especially at Christmas, her favorite holiday. Her kitchen was always a place of warmth, whether she was preparing hearty meals, baking cookies and other baked goods, or brewing a pot of coffee for a good conversation. She had a sharp wit and a quick sense of humor that kept friends and family laughing, even in the most ordinary moments. She could deliver a perfectly timed remark that left the room in stitches, proof that her mind was as keen as her heart was kind. Marjorie also enjoyed flower arranging, winning several awards through the Newport News Garden Club. She loved playing bridge with her friends and took pride in participating in local elections as a poll worker. In retirement, she kept herself well-informed on current events and enjoyed watching The Price is Right, her afternoon soap operas, Jeopardy, and following Hollywood news. She loved going to dinner and a movie with her friends, and ice cream and cookies were among her guilty pleasures. She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Mrs. June Tucker of Lodi, CA, George "Sonny" Young of Lynn, MA, Mrs. Betty Scaparro of Salem, MA, and Mrs. Nancy Minnucci of Marlboro, MA; and her eldest son, Clarence Halbert Williams, Jr., better known as Willie. She is survived by several grandchildren: Elizabeth, Morgan, and Douglas Williams from her son and his wife, Doug and Margie Williams; and Zane and Zoe Musick-Williams from her son Barry. Barry and his wife Jess cared for her with devotion in her final year Jess with her caregiving and Barry with his administrative skills. In addition, she leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Those who knew her best will remember her as a woman of faith, independence, and grace-someone who met each day with humor, kindness, and strength. In her own words, she faced the end of her journey with the same calm assurance that guided her life: "I'm ready. God's been good to me all my days." A gathering of family and friends will be held at Hogg Funeral Home on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hogg Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 11:00 am, officiated by Chaplain George Bailey, Jr. Inurnment will be private. In memory of Marjorie, memorial contributions may be made to Menchville Baptist Church 248 Menchville Rd, Newport News, VA 23602. Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.

Yesterday

I am so sad to hear that Margie has passed and gone to heaven. We were friends for many years, driving our buses together and dining out many times. She did look forward to all of the bus drivers getting together. She was one of my favorite people. God bless her.
