In Loving Memory of Mark Anthony Allen
With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved family member, Mark
Anthony Allen, who left us on January 13, 2025, at the age of 72.
Mark was born on September 29, 1952, in Portland, Maine, to Daniel and Norma (Brand)
Allen. He spent his early years in Wayland, MA, attending Clay Pitt Hill Schools, before
his family relocated to Kennebunkport, ME, in 1965. He graduated from Kennebunk High
School and later earned a business degree from the University of Southern Maine.
Mark's life was marked by many roles. He worked at Converse Shoes in Berwick, ME, and
in the kitchens of The Gristmill Restaurant and The Colony Hotel in both Kennebunkport,
ME, and Delray Beach, FL. Mark was also a gifted musician, playing in the band Arizona
Ames and the No Holds Barred Band alongside his brother, Matt, and friends Ron Batton
and Bill James. The band performed at Kennebunk High School and had the honor of
playing for Senator/Representative Richardson in Yarmouth, ME.
Music was Mark's lifelong passion. He began playing guitar in 1967 after taking lessons
in Biddeford, and years later, he opened his own music studio where he helped others
create and record their music, sharing his love for the art with all who entered his studio.
In 1976, following a memorable visit to Washington, D.C., Mark enlisted in the U.S. Army
and was stationed at Aberdeen, MD. He proudly served his country for 20 years before
retiring and continuing his career as an Electronics Mechanic at The Portsmouth Naval
Shipyard.
Throughout his life, Mark remained committed to his family and friends. He was a
devoted husband, loving brother, and steadfast friend. His kindness, generosity, and
quick wit could light up any room, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Mark was predeceased by his mother, Norma Dawson. He is survived by his loving wife,
Sophia Ao Allen, of Somersworth, NH; his father, Daniel (Joanne) Allen, of Saco, ME; his
sons, Xinrui Xiang, of Boston, MA, David Clifton Allen, of Somersworth, NH, and Maxwell
A. Page, of Somersworth, NH; his brother, Matthew Allen, of Santa Clara, CA; his sisters,
Nancy Soule-Theriault, of Lyman, ME, and Lorraine Alden, of West Palm Beach, FL; as
well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever cherish his
memory.
Funeral Service
A service will be held on Friday, February 21, at 11:00 AM, at the New Hampshire
Veterans' Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
Rest in peace, Mark. You will always be in our hearts, and your memory will live on in the
love and joy you gave us.
