Mark Ronald Austin

Mark Ronald Austin, age 63, passed away at home on October 31, 2025, in Muskegon, Michigan. Mark was born to Elvin and Marlys Austin on October 4, 1962, in California. Mark graduated from Fruitport High School, after which he attended the Ohio Diesel Institute for trade school. In 1988, Mark married Gayle, his "brown eyed girl," in Grand Haven, Michigan.

Mark will be remembered as a thoughtful and selfless man. Mark had a great appreciation for the outdoors and frequently spent time hunting in the U.P., camping, and boating. Mark and Gayle had many great adventures on their boat, including fulfilling Mark's bucket list item of going under the Mackinaw Bridge. Mark enjoyed golfing in his golf league and with his father-in-law, woodworking, playing high-school and Tri-City Mariner football, being a part of the Fruitport High School "chain gang", and learning about local and family history. More than anything, Mark valued being a husband, father, and grandfather. He took Gayle and a group of friends on wine-tasting trips in Traverse City and enjoyed the time spent vacationing with family in Siesta Key, Florida. Mark was always extremely proud and excited when his sons would bag a deer during hunting season. He absolutely adored his granddaughter, Emma, and turned into a big kid himself when playing with her.

Mark will be dearly missed by his wife, Gayle Austin; sons, Trevor Austin and Bryce Austin; grandchildren, Emma Austin and Isabella Gesiakowski; mother, Marlys Austin; siblings, Bryan Austin, Daniel Austin, Traci Austin, and Tamra Austin-Weathers; parents-in-law, David "Pops" (fiancé, Joyce) Suchecki and Dawn King; brothers-in-law, Guy (Christine) Suchecki and Brett (Tricia) Suchecki; and nieces and nephews. Mark is preceded in death by his sister, Rhonda Austin, and father, Elvin Austin.

A memorial service for Mark will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 am at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions in Mark's memory may be made to The American Cancer Society.
