Mark Bauer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory on Jan. 6, 2026.
Mark Alan Bauer, age 66, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on January 3, 2026. Mark was born September 14, 1959. Mark was a proud St. Louis, Missouri, native, graduating from Clayton High School and earning a master's degree from Southern Illinois University.
Mark was a devoted husband who deeply loved his wife, Saralinda, and stepson, Matthew. His marriage and family life were the joy of his life.
A compassionate, dedicated professional in the public workforce system for over 30 years, Mark was a mentor, friend, and leader. He cared strongly for those who were different, and he saw and celebrated the potential in everyone. Mark loved his work and the opportunity he had to make a difference in people's lives on a personal and policy level throughout his career. His impact and contributions in shaping the public workforce system locally, statewide, and nationally will be missed.
Also missed will be his baritone voice, presence, sense of humor, and deep friendship.
Mark found peace in nature and sunsets. His love for animals revealed the tenderness of his heart, and his knowledge of all species was amazing.
Mark was the best brother to his surviving sisters, Carolyne Humphrey, Marion Eaker-Buckley, and Nicki Bauer (Peter Wright). He will be deeply missed by nieces and nephews David (Sonia) Humphrey, Jennifer Eaker, Audrey Wright, Caylee Gillis, Sairus Viggers, cousins Jessica and Robert Humphrey, and in laws Amy Viggers-Gillis and Sam and (Vicky) Viggers along with other extended family members. Mark is preceded in death by his parents, John D. Bauer and Marjorie Steinmetz, aunts Inga Hynes and Lisa Lamb, and brothers-in-law, Glenn Humphrey and Bill Buckley.
The family will hold a celebration of life May 31, 2026, from 2:00 pm -4:00 pm at:
Stephens Lake Park, Riechmann Pavillion (indoor facility), 2001 East Broadway, Columbia, MO 65201
