Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stephen C. Gregory and Son Cremation Service from Apr. 9 to Apr. 10, 2022.
Mark John Bennett, born September 17th, 1956 in Burlington Vermont, and raised in Huntington Center, passed away on Saturday, April 2nd, 2022 surrounded by his loving family in Starksboro, Vermont.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years Jennet (Tallen) Bennett, sons Jesse Bennett, Jamie Bennett (wife Corey Lacaillade), Devon Bennett, his brother Bruce Bennett, and his extended family. He enjoyed every moment with his 6 grandchildren, Owen, Addison, Bryce, Blake, Ivy, and Gabriel Bennett. He was predeceased by his parents Everett & Ruth Bennett and sister Julie Russin.
His family would like to share the following memories that truly describe how wonderful of a man Mark was:
Jesse: Dad always made sure to prepare large meals and would make us eat first while he always ate last. He wanted to make sure everyone had their fill before he served himself. This is just one small example of how selfless he was and how he put others' needs before his own. I remember him being up half the night stoking the wood stove to make sure we were warm all night. At bowling, I was winning this one time and started bragging…..7 straight strikes later; I lost and my Dad won, lesson learned. Dad didn't sugar coat things-he told you the way you needed to hear them, not how you wanted to hear them.
Jamie: This one time, my Dad, brothers, and I went to a Red Sox game. Dad made sure that he got a kitchen pass from Jennet so we headed to Boston for an overnight. We had a great time at the game. Of course, Dad normally turned into a pumpkin around 8:30 at the latest, but the boys had other plans for adventure. We hit multiple spots after the game and there were plenty of drinks had. He stayed out to make sure his boys got back to the hotel and kept up with his 20 something-year-old sons. Once we had a nightcap at the hotel bar around 1 AM, the pumpkin cart came and carted him off to bed. Even though we were all full-grown men, Dad just had to make sure we were taken care of. That was who my father was.
Devon: I would like to share an accumulation of small memories that I have of my father. I remember long car rides, sometimes with no real destination. We would sleep outside on the porch with him in the summertime. He would make a huge Sunday morning breakfast…as we waited for Jesse to wake up. He would rent old wrestling videos which led to him wrestling my brothers and me. He was always so supportive and would attend all of our sporting events. Some of the best memories are hanging out, watching baseball and football games, and playing Nintendo games. We will also remember our celebration of Christmas on Christmas Eve. I am lucky to have so many more memories and to have shared so much time with him. I love him and I couldn't have asked for a better father.
His brother Bruce has so many wonderful memories of them growing up together, spending time and enjoying their young life into the most recent years, and will miss his younger brother more than words can say.
Jennet will miss the love of her life. She has many memories of constant laughing, gardening, canning, making meals, and working together. They were truly inseparable and were each other's love of their lifetime.
Mark left quite an impression on many people because of his thoughtful, friendly, and laid-back personality. He would enjoy having a beer with you, barbequing, playing horseshoes, and ping-pong while a quick errand would soon turn into a social hour.
Mark and his family were very grateful for the care provided by UVM Medical Center and Addison County Home, Health & Hospice. At this time, there will not be a public celebration.
