Mark Broughman Obituary

Mark Adam Broughman, age 44 of McHenry, Il passed away after an eighteen-month courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 6th 2026. He was born to Carol (Grzesikowski) and Jerome Broughman in Jackson MI on August 11th , 1981.
Mark is survived by his loving mother, Carol. Two beloved children, the light of his life, Adeline age 9, and his mini-me Michael (Mikey) age 7. Siblings, twin sister Bridgette Toigo (John), brother and best friend Michael (Deana), Jerome, Aaron (Angela), Lori Menard (Gary), and Scott (Kim). Super Uncle Tom Grzesikowski (Tami), and Aunt Susan Belden. Many nieces and nephews; Katie Grove (Aaron), Devin, Malachi, Tayah, twins Sarah and Samantha, Aiyana, Allison, Barrett, James, Brett, Josie, and Gabriela. Great nephew Atlas, and great niece Charlotte. Close maternal cousins, Courtney and TJ, and several special fraternal cousins including Mary, Bonnie, Missy, Lisa and Kevin. So many special friends, including childhood friend Brad Milbourne (Amber), numerous Phi Delta Theta brothers, his beloved McCollum Lake neighborhood community, and countless friends from his many years in automotive sales.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jerome "Jerry" Broughman and his maternal and fraternal grandparents.
Mark grew up in Jackson, MI and graduated from Lumen Christi High School, Class of '99, where he was involved in football and wrestling. After high school Mark went on to graduate from Northwood University in Midland, MI in 2003.
He had a passion for cars and embarked on a decades long career in the robust Midwest Auto Corridor in the state of Illinois. He knew automotive sales inside and out.
Mark honed his expertise in the industry at Gary Lang Auto Group in McHenry where he worked for over a decade. From there he continued to work in the local area, including time at Kunes Auto Group, eventually working independently specializing in car auction sales. He was always happy to help a family member find a great deal on a vehicle.
Mark was a proud member and past president of Phi Delta Theta Michigan Epsilon fraternity, bond number 330. The bond of brotherhood was very important to him, and he remained close to many fraternity brothers over the years always lighting up with a smile when regaling stories and sharing memories.
He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for years, becoming a 4 th Degree Knight with his brother Mike in 2022. More recently, he belonged to Council #16446 of St. Patrick's Church in McHenry where he was a parishioner. St. Pat's provided Mark so much love and faith support during his battle with cancer. Fr. Nasso, Tim, his Eucharistic minister, and Monsignor Joe were integral to this and had a special place in Mark's heart.
Mark's Polish heritage meant so much to him. He was a regular listener of the WKHM Polka Hour on Sundays and enjoyed attending service at St. Francis Mission Parish PNCC. Parishioners George and his dog Cooper were big supporters of Mark. He adored hearing George sing the old Polish hymns.
Beyond this, Mark loved good food and drink, good times, sports and lake life. Getting out on the boat and gathering with neighbors and friends filled his cup. A lifelong Detroit sports fan he couldn't wait to cheer on his favorite teams. His loyalty and esteem for the Detroit Lions was unparalleled; he proudly wore the "Honolulu blue" while residing in the heart of Bear country.
Mark will always be remembered as the king of nostalgia, and was quick with a meme, joke, or Seinfeld reference. He loved to laugh and connect with others.
Most of all though, Mark made it clear that faith and family mattered to him most, especially his love for his children. There was nothing more fulfilling and motivating than their loving presence and their laughs, which carried him through each stage of his journey. He believed strongly in the Grace of God and the power of prayer. This was evidenced in the immense strength he showed during the many challenges he faced the last eighteen months. He inspired so many with his fighting spirit.
There are no words for how much he will be deeply missed.
Mark's wishes were to come home to Michigan.
Visitation will be held at Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson, MI from 4-7pm on Thursday January 15th.
The Mass of Christian burial will be held at Queen of Miraculous Medal Church in Jackson, MI on Friday, January 16th at 11am, Rev. Tim McDonald officiating.
Interment will take place at St. John's Cemetery.

Bridgette, Jerome, Families and Loved Ones....Very sorry to hear of Mark's passing. He and I lost touch after high school, but I still remember fondly the ongoing inside jokes we shared in gym class and at wrestling practice. Life sure happens fast. I hope that warm thoughts of his wit and courage and everything he was can bring smiles and comfort. May the angels welcome him to paradise.

Mark was a great guy ! One of my favorite fraternity brothers! He was always so energetic and full of life! Everyone loved him! The last time I saw him was about 10 years ago in Illinois when I was out there visiting family and he picked me up in a shiny red corvette. We went to Famous Freddie´s and had a great time! See you in heaven brother ! Love you

Mark was a tremendous friend. Although separated by distance after college, I began following his journey and battle in summer of 2025. His tenacity to overcome and his persistent reliance on faith were inspiring. We had many things in common during, and after college, and I´m saddened to have learned of his passing.

We are bonded by our faith, our fraternity, and our friendship. My condolences to the entire family and all the friends he garnered along the way.

Mark is my uncle one of the best I ever had me and him and some wholesome moments like sitting on the couch together watching Seinfeld or so quite insane moments like him yelling on Thanksgiving at the lions cause they didn't get enough fantasy points or they were losing to the Packers or like when we went to Mike's and terrorize him mark was a good man we will miss you brother
