Mark Carpenter, 61, of St. Joseph passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2026 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, Mich., surrounded by his family.
The family is holding a visitation on Friday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m. at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Road, St. Joseph followed by the memorial service at 6 p.m. with Pastor Brent Walker from Peace Lutheran Church. Memorials can be made to The Humane Society – Southwestern Michigan Yeager Family Pet Shelter. Please feel free to sign Mark's guest book online at www. starks-menchinger.com.
Mark was born March 24, 1964, in St. Joseph to Richard "Rich" and Norma (Schultz) Carpenter. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1982 and continued his education at Lake Michigan College. He had a loving union with Rebecca "Becky" Carpenter that began in 1990 and lasted 33 years, resulting in two beautiful children, Olivia and Alec. Mark worked at Homes by Carpenters with his father and uncle for 23 years before beginning a nearly 17-year career at Tyler Honda.
Mark is survived by his parents, Rich and Norma Carpenter; the mother of his children, Becky Carpenter; son, Alec Carpenter; daughter, Olivia Carpenter; brother, David "Dave" Carpenter; uncle, Charles "Chuck" Carpenter; aunt, Ann Carpenter; cousin, Chad Carpenter; niece, Karli Carpenter; nephew, Riley Carpenter; and his incredible team at Tyler Honda.
Mark was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents.
Mark was a very passionate man, especially when it came to anything related to cars. When he was a child, his parents often spoke about how he would spend hours playing with toy cars – with Hondas being his favorite, so it was only fitting that he transitioned to a career working with them.
He was very passionate about anything technology, whether it was the newest Apple product or volunteering his time every Sunday in the audio/visual department at Peace Lutheran Church. Mark enjoyed spending his free time at the shooting range, adding to his Mitch Rosen holster collection, testing out his glock, and "defending the homeland," as he would always say. When he wasn't working to support his family, Mark made every baseball, football, basketball and marching band competition he could. Mark had a heart for animals, but he had a special passion for his pups! We're sure he was met in heaven by Millie and Chloe.
We will love and miss you endlessly, but we have our happy and loving memories to keep you with us forever. We will always be reminded of you when we see Hondas on the street, watch the "Star Wars" and James Bond films or the History Channel, and listen to Pink Floyd and Tom Petty.

I want to extend my deepest sympathies to Becky, Norma, Rich, and the rest of the family and friends. We became acquainted through church at Peace Lutheran. I was not in town at the time so was not able to attend Marks service with my husband Ray. Please know you have all been in my heart and prayers. Mary and Ray Damaske.

Mark was my go-to guy when it came time for a new car. Always a first-rate "good people" type of person. Little did I know how much we had in common. I feel a sense of loss and sorrow- I liked him that much.
