Mark DeCheck Obituary

Mark E. DeCheck MD

December 19, 1956 - July 11, 2025

RACINE - Mark Edward DeCheck, age 68, passed away Friday, July 11, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Racine, WI, December 19, 1956, the 4th of 6 children of the late Michael and Elaine (Nee: Kaskubar) DeCheck.

Mark graduated from Wm Horlick High School "Class of 1975" and completed his undergraduate studies at UW Parkside. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree from UW Madison School of Medicine and completed his residency at St. Catherine's Hospital in Kenosha. It was at St. Catherine's Hospital that he met Carole Paskiewicz and they were united in marriage at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, March 28, 1987. In 1988, Dr. Mark opened his family practice office in Racine and continued till 2023. He was a member and past president of the Racine County Medical Society and had served on the boards of the Caledonia Health Department and Hospice Alliance. He will be remembered as a kind compassionate physician who was happy to do home visits. Mark was an avid gardener – a interest instilled in him as a young boy by helping his Italian grandparents with their garden. He was always happy to give a tour and share his produce with family and friends. Above all he treasured the time spent with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are his wife 38 years, Carole; children, Dr. Natalie (Nick) Wietfeldt, Andrew (Jane) DeCheck, Madeline DeCheck; 2 grandchildren, Adeline Wietfeldt, Adrian DeCheck; siblings, William DeCheck (Vicky), Patricia (Keith) Roberson, Joseph (Paula) DeCheck, Laura (Slawek Bala) DeCheck; in-laws, Linda Schuler, Gary (Susan) Paskiewicz, Ben Fapso, Tina (Jeff) Moore; aunt and uncle, Ron and Mary Carls; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, dear friends and patients. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, MaryJo; brother-in-law, James Paskiewicz and sisters-in-law, Laurie Fapso and Amy Paskiewicz.

Relatives and friends are invited to meet the family at the funeral home Sunday, July 20, 2025, 2-5 p.m. Private services will be held with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Hwy 32.

In lieu of flowers memorials to one's favorite charity have been suggested.

As an ICU nurse I got to know Dr. DeCheck from his patient visits. He was always smiling, friendly and made the staff and his patients feel special. He always gave his time generously and had an excellent bedside manner. I was so impressed with him I recommended my elderly next door neighbors to obtain him as their primary physician. He was absolutely wonderful with them, even coming to their home for several visits, easing their anxieties while talking about his garden. He was a wonderful man and a rare find as a physician, he will be missed by many. My deepest sympathy for your loss.

Mark and I were in Medical School at the same time. I remember him being a good conversationalist and an all around great guy. I´m sure he will be greatly missed by family, friends and patients.
