Mark L. Eccles, 68, of rural Cherryvale, passed away at 8:55 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2022, at his home. He had been in failing health.
Mark was born on November 5, 1954, at Parsons to Verle and Lela (McCord) Eccles. He grew up at rural Parsons and attended Labette County schools graduating from Labette County High School in 1973.
He worked for various construction companies for several years as a heavy equipment operator. He then worked for Montgomery County for many years as the Road and Bridge Supervisor and a Heavy Equipment Operator until he retired in 2020 due to his health. He also worked on the family farm near Parsons.
Mark attended the Otterbein United Brethren Church and was also a member of the Chetopa Creek Gun Club serving as Vice-President and Range Master. Mark was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, hiking, shooting, and deer shed hunting. He was also a black powder gun and rifle enthusiast and enjoyed reloading ammunition.
Mark and Sheila Jean March were married on June 18, 1977, at the Otterbein United Brethren Church at rural Parsons.
In addition to his wife, Mark is survived by his two sons, Robert "Rob" Eccles of Parsons and Timothy "Tim" Eccles, and his wife, Crystal Cherryvale: his daughter, Marla Jones, and her husband, Michael of Caney; five grandchildren; Anthony Eccles, Karla Eccles, Joshua Cumpton, Takota Eccles, and Ryder Jones; his step father-in-law, Larry March of Cherryvale; his brother-in-law, Kenneth 'Kenny" March, and his wife, Angela of Cherryvale; his sister-in-law, Becky Warren, and her husband, Marty of Cherryvale; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marcia Eccles.
Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home with Michael Miller officiating. Burial will take place in the Harmony Grove Cemetery near Dennis later. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorials are suggested to Kindred Hospice, and these may be left at or mailed to the funeral home 112 N. 26th St., P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357.
