Mark Steven Ekovich was a remarkable man whose life was a true testament to passion, dedication, and love for family and community. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Mark grew up with strong values instilled by his parents, Lottie and Eli Ekovich, and shared a special bond with his sister Patsy, who preceded him in death. Throughout his life, Mark remained deeply connected to his roots while carving out his own unique path.

Mark was a loving father to his two sons, Nick(Jennifer) and Matt, and a proud grandfather to Jaden, Tanner, and Skylar. His family extended beyond blood relations, as he embraced his stepchildren Jerry, Kevin, and Christopher, along with their children and even a great-grandchild, Paisley. His warmth and kindness also touched his niece Pam Burrows and nephews Ricky and Eddie Sox, who all remember him fondly.

A man of many interests, Mark’s love for golf and motorcycles was well known. He was often found on the golf course, competing in Pro/Am tournaments with enthusiasm and skill. His passion for motorcycles went beyond riding; he was the trusted expert among friends and family whenever anyone had a problem with their bike. If you needed advice or help, Mark was the one to turn to.

Mark’s professional life was just as vibrant. After working at Carolina Eastman, he took a bold step and founded Elite Fencing Company, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to hard work. Beyond his business, Mark was a licensed scuba diver who shared his love for the underwater world by teaching scuba diving at Lake Murray, inspiring others to explore and appreciate the beauty beneath the surface.

His dedication to community service was profound. Mark founded CHANCE, an organization supporting the Nancy K. Perry Children’s Center, showing his compassion for children in need. He also served as the legislative coordinator for ABATE of South Carolina’s CWC chapter, where he was a committed member for over 15 years. His efforts helped shape policies and support causes close to his heart.

Known for his candidness, Mark never hesitated to speak his mind, always honest and straightforward. Yet, he was also a great listener, offering wise counsel and support to those around him. When asked what he wanted for his own obituary, his simple reply, “Yep, I’m dead,” reflected his no-nonsense attitude and sense of humor.

Mark's legacy is one of strength, kindness, and unwavering passion. He touched the lives of many, leaving behind memories filled with love, laughter, and the spirit of a man who truly lived life on his own terms. His family, friends, and community will carry his memory forward, forever grateful for the time they shared with him.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. The obituary will be updated accordingly once arrangements have been finalized.
