Mark Gurwell

With great love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mark Gurwell, a fun-loving, wild, and free spirit who left this world on Wednesday July 23rd, 2025, surrounded by family, at the age of 71.

Mark was born April 1, 1954, in Chanute, Kansas, the son of Gene Gurwell and Margaret Louise Wolfe. He was known for living life on his own terms - a true original. Mark had a passion for the outdoors and a love for music. He loved spending his time on the river kayaking and fishing, outdoors, hunting, or playing music, especially if it meant being surrounded by friends and family.

He is survived by two sons, Jason Gurwell (Tiphanie) and Daniel Fox (Krystal), daughter Shawna Sturgell (Chad), his siblings Gail Callison (Jimmy), Debra Gurwell, Yvonne Edmonson and his eight grandchildren, Gracie, Gavin, Gwyn, Graham, Barry, Gemma, Trace and Tyra.

He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Suzan Ledbetter and granddaughter Shalee, his father Gene Gurwell, his mother Margaret Louise Frieholtz, step-father Frank Freiholtz, and two brothers Gary and Fred Gurwell.

Throughout his life, he shared love and laughter with many, including three ex-wives, and six stepchildren (Nick, Josh, Sam, Wendy, Tisha and Jamie) who knew his unique brand of affection and adventure.

Mark will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his music, and his ability to make everyone feel like they were part of his world and in doing so, left a permanent mark on those who knew him.

A celebration of life will be held on August 3rd, 2025 at 3pm. Located at 10889 AR-72 W, Centerton AR 72719, to honor the man who taught us to dance to our own beat. Please gather with us to share stories and laughter, the way he would have wanted.
