Michael Ryan Gurwell

Michael "Mike" Ryan Gurwell, aged 71, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 26, 2025, in Odessa, Texas. Born on April 14, 1954, in Des Moines, Iowa, to James Gurwell. Mike's infectious spirit and boundless love touched everyone he met throughout his vibrant life.
Mike's journey was one marked by love, laughter, and the joy of family. He found his soulmate in Marsha Gurwell, and together they navigated life's adventures and challenges with grace and affection. Mike was a beacon of love and support to his father, James Gurwell, who survives him. His legacy lives on through his children, Joe Dowell, Shannon Hampton, Michael Hampton, Cody Hampton, Jeannie Bulls, and Jessie Clarkson, as well as his numerous grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom he adored. Mike's life was a testament to his belief that every child deserves to feel wanted and loved, a belief he upheld every day. His cousins, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond, will forever cherish the memories they created together.
Those who knew Mike will fondly remember him as the epitome of kindness, intelligence, and love. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he dedicated himself to making each moment with them magical and memorable. Mike's heart of gold shone brightly, and his capacity for love knew no bounds. His silly and goofy nature often brought laughter and smiles to those around him, creating an atmosphere of warmth and joy that will be greatly missed.
Mike's life was one of purpose and passion. He was a man who was truly meant to be a father, not just to his own children but to any child in need of care and affection. His approach to life was one of inclusivity and generosity, ensuring that no one ever felt out of place or alone. His intelligence was not just of the mind but also of the heart, and his understanding and empathy were gifts he freely gave to all. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but the love and laughter he brought into our lives will remain as a comforting reminder of the wonderful man we were privileged to know.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us in celebrating Mike's life. Visitation will begin at 6pm-9pm, Thursday, May 1, 2025 at Acres West Funeral Chapel. Funeral Services will begin 10am, Friday, May 2, 2025 at Faith Community Church.
