Mark Steven Hammond, a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on Sunday, June 21st, 1953, in Lansing, Michigan, Mark spent his later years as a cherished resident of Aiken, South Carolina.
Mark dedicated his professional life to serving his community as a meter reader at the Board of Water of Water & Light, a role he carried out with diligence and professionalism. He was also the owner and managing partner of Turtle Lake Resort. Outside of work, he was a passionate aficionado of NASCAR racing and found joy in the world of professional fireworks, often sharing these interests with family and friends.
Mark was a devoted family man, loved deeply by his son, Richard D. Hammond, and his daughter-in-law, Katie Hammond, both of Aiken. He was also a cherished brother to Scott, Steven, and Michael Hammond, and to his dear sister, Kathleen Hammond. Mark leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in the hearts of his grandchildren, Kalop Joyner, Leah Hammond, and Abigail Hammond. He also had a special bond with his daughter-in-law, Rikki Hammond.
Mark's journey was marked by the profound love he held for his departed family members, including his father, Dick Hammond, his mother, Lorna Hammond, and his beloved spouse, Karri Hammond. He also cherished the memories of his two sons, Jarrod and Darold Hammond, who preceded him in death.
In Mark's memory, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the charity of one's choice.
Mark will be deeply missed, but his warm spirit and enduring love will forever be remembered and cherished by all those he touched throughout his life.
