Mark Hoshall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Parker Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. on Feb. 24, 2026.
Mark was born on June 22, 1960, in Silver Spring, Maryland. From the very beginning, he carried the strength, grit, and loyalty that would define his life. Over the years he became known by many names. Dad. Pop Pop. The Hulkster. Zeb Macahan. Each name tells its own story. Each one represents a different part of a man who meant so much to so many.

Mark was passionate in everything he did. He was hardworking, loyal, and deeply proud of his family. He believed in providing, in showing up, and in doing the job in front of him with commitment. He worked as an accountant at CommonSpirit and truly loved what he did. He also ran his own lawn mowing business, always willing to put in extra hours, always finding another yard to mow, another job to take on. He worked hard because taking care of his family mattered to him more than anything.

If you knew Mark well, you knew his wit. The puns never stopped. His imagination never slowed down. He could spin stories about "him and the Maddog" that seemed to grow more elaborate with every telling. He loved making people laugh. There was always that look in his eye when you knew a joke was coming.

He was fiercely loyal to the things and people he loved. There was no bigger fan of Baltimore sports teams. Wins were celebrated loudly. Losses were endured faithfully. Every July, you could count on him shooting off his quad pod from the swamp cooler, lighting up the sky in his own unforgettable way. He had a deep fascination with Civil War history and could talk for hours about the people and moments that shaped the nation. He loved driving, the open road, and the adventure of a road trip. For Mark, there was something freeing about getting behind the wheel and just going.

Mark's faith was a steady anchor in his life. It carried him especially through his nearly fifteen year battle with cancer. Through treatments, setbacks, and uncertainty, he remained remarkably optimistic. He faced each challenge with determination and a belief that tomorrow could still hold something good. He did not let cancer define him. He continued to live, to work, to cheer, to joke, and to love.

He was proud of his children. Proud of the adults they became. Proud of the faith that shaped his life. Proud of his red barn and the life he built around it. He was also blessed with deep friendships, especially with the Maddogs and the Lewis family. These friendships were lasting and meaningful, built on laughter, loyalty, and shared stories.

Mark Luther Hoshall is survived by his wife, Kris Hoshall; his children, Michael (Kenny), Charlie (Abby), and Holly (Zach); his granddaughters, Selah, Isla Kae, and Miley; his sister, Debbie Hoshall; and his brother, Charles Hoshall (Peggy). He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Flossie Hoshall.

If Mark were here today, he would not want us to leave carrying only sorrow. He would want us to remember the laughter. To tell a bad pun. To cheer for our teams. To take the road trip. To light up the sky in July. To hold tightly to our faith and to our families.

We are better because we knew him. And though we will miss him deeply, we leave here grateful. Grateful to have called him Dad. Pop Pop. Friend. Grateful to have witnessed a life marked by hard work, humor, faith, and perseverance.
