Mark Hurley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen Funeral Home - Morristown on Mar. 1, 2026.
Mark Steven Hurley, 74, of Morristown, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026.

Mark was a man with a lot of interests - and he dove into all of them. He loved music of all kinds, fishing whenever he could, Star Wars, and anything involving ufology or cryptozoology. He never met a classic sci-fi movie or western he didn't enjoy, and he was always up for an airshow. He also had a deep appreciation for guns - not for hunting, but because he found them interesting.

He cared deeply about his community, and that showed throughout his life. Mark was a longtime member of Trinity Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, played handbells, and helped start and maintain the church's community food pantry mission. Helping people just felt natural to him. Also, as a former drum major, Mark continued to be a huge supporter of the Morristown East High Band.

Mark was also an expert appliance repairman. He built his own appliance repair business from the ground up, earning the trust of loyal customers and making plenty of friends along the way. If something was broken, he could fix it - and probably explain exactly why it broke in the first place.

More than anything, though, Mark loved his family. He especially enjoyed going "Jeeping" with his wife, his annual birthday dinners at Huck Finn's Catfish, and never missed the cherished bi-weekly family dinners. Those simple moments meant the world to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Deony and Patricia Hurley, and his brother, Jeffrey Hurley.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Carter Hurley, of 50 years; his children, Caitlyn (Stephen) Hurley-Potter, Meghan (Jeramey Montanus) Hurley, and Matthew (Andy Binsfeld) Hurley; his grandchildren, Lucas (Bre Fields) Hurley, Chloe Slagle, Audrey Rypel, and Lexy Montanus; his sister, Sandra Hurley Pizzini; brothers-in-law, Timothy (Lisa) Carter, Marc (Libba) Carter, and Scot (Kelly) Carter; nephews, Joseph Pizzini, Ryan Carter, Logan Carter, and Taylor Carter; and nieces, Marissa Pizzini, Shana Carter, Lindsay Carter Presnell, and Brooke Carter.

The family will receive friends from 4–6 PM on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home. A celebration of Mark's life will follow at 6 PM. In true Mark fashion, those attending are encouraged to dress casually.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Hamblen County Board of Education to help eliminate student meal debt or to the Morristown East High Band Boosters.
