In Loving Memory of a Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend.
Mark Charles Jackson
Mark Charles Jackson, 62, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away on April 10, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Dedication, craftsmanship, and deep love for his loved ones defined the life of Mark, who was born on December 5, 1962, in Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Upon graduating from Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio, Mark attended Central State University. His entry into the U.S. Army was in 1987, with basic training completion that May. The Sharpshooter Badge, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon were among his military awards. Mark served his country honorably as a carpentry and masonry specialist building military facilities across the globe with skill and commitment.
After his military service, Mark spent over a decade working as a power plant operator for Colorado Springs Utilities in Colorado, and managed his own painting business. His colleagues respected his integrity, dependability, and quiet strength.
He was a true artisan in the kitchen and behind the grill-a master of flavor and host of unforgettable gatherings. A lifelong music enthusiast and talented musician, Mark played the bass, drums, and guitar, having once been in a band during his youth. His passion for music filled every space he entered and was a constant backdrop to the life he loved so deeply.
Mark, predeceased by his parents, Lulu Belle Warnock, and Charles Jackson, is survived by his sister Melody Jackson, and three loving children from his marriage with Sonovia Jackson; Sharelle Cross (Dustin), Shardae' Jackson, and Mark Jackson Jr. Mark was a joyful grandfather to Ja'cion Jackson, Draydon Cross, Journii Jackson, and Demi Cross. He was a cherished uncle to Tonyette Jordan (Courtney), a proud great-uncle to Tanasia and Chance, and a cousin and comrade to a host of relatives and friends. Family was everything to Mark, and he loved nothing more than being surrounded by the people he cared for most.
His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to family will ensure Mark's remembrance. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, heard, and valued. His legacy is one of strength, generosity, and love-one that lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing him.
We will miss him deeply, and we will always remember him.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Monday, April 21, 2025 at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road.
