Mark Jurek Obituary

Mark was born in Letowice, Poland, 1961, a village outside of Krakow. He came to the United States at the age of 15, attended Oak Park High School, and then Coyne College. After graduation, he became an electrician, a profession he practiced for more than 40 years. Mark was a revered member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 134. He was referred to as the "Godfather" because of his experience, expertise and willingness to mentor and help fellow members.
Mark met the love of his life, Anna, on a ski trip 40 years ago. A long courtship culminated with their marriage in 1997. Mark and Anna travelled frequently – ski trips when they were younger and more tropical destinations in later years. They also loved to get together with friends for bowling, poker, or a just nice dinner out. Mark was always happy to buy the round as long as it was Stella Artois
Mark was kind, generous, hardworking, and embraced life. He skied every black diamond, always filled his plate to overflowing at the buffet, and never gave up rooting for his Chicago Bears. His Mount Prospect neighborhood came to depend on him whether it be snow removal, electrical projects, or advice on home remodeling. His legacy of humor and generous spirit will live on through his family, friends, and neighbors.
Mark is survived by his wife, Anna Jurek (nee: Green); his brothers Piotr Jurek (Wanda), Gerard Jurek and Andrzej Jurek (Joanne). He is preceded in death by his father, Zbigniew Jurek; mother, Janina Jurek (nee: Zajac); and his brother, Stanislaw Jurek (Teresa).

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Matz Mt. Prospect Funeral Chapel, Inc. (410 E Rand Rd, Mt Prospect, IL 60056). A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the same location.
