Mark Light Obituary

WINDHAM CENTER

Mark Allen Light Sr., 72, of Windham Center, CT, passed away on November 23, 2025. He was born and raised in Windham Center, CT, Mark devoted his life to his family, his community, and especially to the Windham Center Fire Department, where he proudly served for 55 years. His dedication, leadership, and service left an enduring mark on the community he loved.

Mark's commitment to the fire service ran deep in his family's history. He served as Fire Chief from 2005-2006, following in the footsteps of his father, David Light Sr., who was also a Chief, as well as his grandfather. The Light family legacy within the department remains a source of pride and tradition that will

continue to be remembered.

Mark worked for United Nuclear for more than 20 years until the plant closed, earning respect for his strong work ethic and reliability. He later retired from the Windham Public School System, where he made many lasting friendships and generously shared his knowledge to help keep the schools running safely and efficiently.

Mark is survived by his mother, Helen Light of Windham, CT; brother, David Light Jr. and wife, Susan Light; and his nieces, Melissa Banfill and husband, Brian Banfill of Massachusetts, and

Amanda Walter of Windham, CT; children: son, Mark Light Jr. and wife, Lisa Light of East Hampton, CT, and his daughter, Jennifer Light of Myrtle Beach, SC; five cherished grandchildren: Kristopher Bates and wife, Leah Bates, Zachary Light, Kobie Bates, Ashley Light, and Karson Bates; along with great-nephews and a great-niece: Tyler Walter, Kyle Banfill, Bryce Walter, and Kayla Banfill.

Also, his uncle, Eugene Light and wife, Joan Light of Windham, CT. Mark was preceded in death by his father, David Light Sr., and by his beloved wife, Diane Light, with whom he shared many years of love, family, and partnership.

Graveside services will be held at a later date at Windham Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the Windham Center Fire Department.

Dedicated, hardworking, and community-minded, Mark's legacy of service, friendship, and love will live on through his family, his fire department, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
