On the morning of Friday, October 17, 2025, Mark Vernon McGhinnis, age 68, passed away at Magnolia Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation.
A native of Burke County, he was born April 4, 1957 to the late Bob and Pauline Orders McGhinnis.
Mark was formerly employed with Carolina Shoe. He was an accomplished and proud Eagle Scout. An avid sports fan, Mark found joy in following sports of all kinds. He was especially a fan of the Washington Redskins. Despite all his struggles in recent years, Mark was always happy. His memory will be forever be a blessing in the lives of all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie McGhinnis; daughter, Jennifer Smith; and his sister, Robin Baker.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather Calloway (Scottie); four grandchildren, Kayla Calloway, Dakota Williams, Hope Moore, and Scottie Calloway, Jr.; four great-grandchildren and one on the way; and his brother, Tim McGhinnis.
The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Creek Independent Baptist Church, located at 2232 Bethel Church Road in Marion.
