Obituary published on Legacy.com by Browning Funeral Home - Evansville on Jan. 3, 2026.
Rev. Mark Alvin Moog, 73, was called to glory on January 1, 2026, at his home in
Evansville, Indiana, following a courageous year-long battle with cancer, with his wife by his side.
Mark was born on October 6, 1952, in
Marshfield, Wisconsin, to the late Rev. Alvin Henry Moog and Mildred Anna (Held) Moog. After the death of his father when Mark was just four years old, he relocated with his siblings to his mother's hometown of Evansville, where he would spend most of his life in faithful service to family, church, and community.
A lifelong servant of the Church, Mark began his ministry as a youth group leader at Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he served alongside Darlene, his future wife and co–youth group leader. They later married and shared more than 40 years as best friends and partners in faith. Before entering full-time ministry, Mark worked for UPS for nearly 25 years, exemplifying service and humility in all he did. He later answered God's call to church leadership, serving first as a lay minister at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Evansville, then as Director of Christian Growth at Trinity Lutheran Church in Darmstadt. He was subsequently called and ordained as a pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, serving Trinity Lutheran Church in Henderson, Kentucky. Mark proudly and lovingly shepherded the Trinity congregation for 18 years before retiring in 2022. During his time as Pastor he also served for four years as Pastoral Advisor to the Indiana District Lutheran Women Missionary League, an organization he was passionate about throughout his ministry.
Mark is survived by his wife, Darlene (Bosse) Moog of
Evansville, IN; his son, Ryan Moog (Abby) of Fairfield, CT; his sister, Mary Castner (Harold) of
Marshfield, WI; niece, Jennifer Weber; nephew, Michael Castner; brother-in-law, Bruce Bosse (Sharon) of Knoxville, TN; nephews, Andrew (Lauren) and Alex Bosse; as well as great-nieces, great-nephews, and many dear friends whose lives were touched by his faith and renowned sense of humor.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rev. Jim Moog; and his sister, Kathryn Moog.
