Mark Pettis Obituary

MARK EDWARD PETTIS
February 14, 1972 ˜ March 14,
2023

Mark Pettis, 51, of Vancouver, WA, passed unexpectedly in a trucking accident in California on March 14, 2023. Mark was born Feb. 14, 1972 and raised in Vancouver, WA. He graduated from Mountain View High School in 1990. Mark is survived by his son, Joseph Pettis of Vancouver; his mother, Diane Pettis of Vancouver; his father, Doug Pettis of Battle Ground; his brother, Doug Pettis II of Kent, WA; his sister, Brooke Pettis McGill (Jason) of Puyallup, WA; his niece, Berkeley McGill; and his step-niece, Rori McGill. He also leaves behind numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. Mark loved driving truck and seeing the countryside, often sending pictures home of the many deer, elk, and spectacular landscapes he saw along the way. He was an avid fisherman, the love of which was inspired by his late grandparents Betty and Eugene Paradis. It was a sport he often enjoyed with his many cousins. A Jeep enthusiast, he made several trips to Moab, UT, and the Rubicon Trail in CA with his brother, father, and son, Joseph. Mark served several years in the U.S. Army and was very proud of his military service. In addition to numerous posts in the U.S., he served overseas in Bosnia, Germany, and South Korea. Mark had a big heart and his kindness and generosity to his family and friends was boundless. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Mark will be interred at the Vancouver Barracks Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Vancouver Hilton on Saturday, April 22nd from 2:30-5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to support.woundedwarriorproject.org or homewithheroes.com.

Mark and I met through a mutual friend in our early 20's. Mark was kind, loving and Very devoted to his family. Mark's smile was the kind that just warmed your heart! My heart aches knowing he has left his family and friends way to soon. Praying that you are able to breath and find some peace, even in just a moment.

I was Mark's teacher, 9th. grade. I had a soft spot for this sweet guy and recognized his name at once. The years did not change him. My prayers to his family.
