Mark Powers Obituary

Mark Powers
November 19, 2024
Mark L. Powers of Bradenton, formerly of Guilford, passed away on November 19, 2024. Mark fought a courageous battle with brain cancer for nine months.
He is survived by his wife, Diane, daughters, Jacki and Erika, son-in-law Jon, and, as of late, his most prized gem: his granddaughter, Isla.
Mark grew up in Hamden and graduated from UMass Amherst. He worked in finance for over 40 years and built multiple thriving businesses. His success came from the relationships he developed with his clients, who he cared for as if they were family.
Along with work, Mark's other focuses in life were his three girls and golf. He would always golf the earliest round possible to get back to his girls to spend the rest of the day with them. At times, he was a scratch golfer and most recently he and his partner won the CSGA Senior Four-Ball Championship in 2022. He orchestrated the annual Tampa Cup tournament and played every year with his favorite SIL, Jon, against the two "sons he never had", T and B.
It was never a dull moment when Mark was around; you had to stay on your toes! He heartily embraced the motto Happy Wife, Happy Life. To know him was to know one of the most generous men of all time and Big Lime will be missed every single day by his family.
Arrangements are being made by Hawley Lincoln Memorial ( https://www.hawleylincolnmemorial.com/location-guilford ). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mark's memory to First Tee (a program to introduce golf to underprivileged youth) or Tunnel to Towers.
A memorial service will be held at the Surf Club in Madison, CT, on Saturday, December 7th. Please join the family in remembering Mark and sharing a memory anytime between
5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Please try to wear something with lime green in it to honor our eternal jokester!

I met Mark in the mid 80s playing golf at Grassy Hill country club in Orange and and since then he was always the most friendly and fun guy to play golf with never heard a bad word come out of his mouth. He was always caring and thoughtful. He would do anything for you, including give you golf equipment that he loved to tinker with, and I know what a great family man he was I think one of my kids was in the same class as his older daughter Jackie I´m sorry I couldn´t pay my respects in person but I just want you to know that I think Mark was a great guy and I know I will miss seeing him.

Mark was so fun and very generous. I know he and Diane bought me more than a few Chardonnays at Bradenton Tennis Club. Before his sweet granddaughter Isla was born, he would entertain my little granddaughter at BTC. They would hold hands and walk around the tennis courts even if the sprinklers went off. Our tennis friends will miss him just as much as his golf friends. Rest in peace, Mark.
