Mark "Marco" Serafini, age 70, passed away on March 28, 2025, at Mayfield Care and Rehabilitation Nursing Home in Chicago following a brief illness.
Born on October 18, 1954, in Montreal, Quebec, Mark's life began with an act of love when he was placed for adoption by his birth mother. He was welcomed into the Serafini family as the son of Elio V. and Lucille M. Serafini (Maravolo) as an infant. After Lucille's passing in 1965, Elio remarried in 1966, and Francis Serafini (Sciacca) embraced Mark and his two younger siblings, Lisa and Michael, as her own.
Mark lived in the Chicago area his entire life, graduating from Glenbard East High School in Lombard, IL, in 1972. Over the years, he worked as a cook, and later as an auto mechanic. His passion for working with his hands was evident in everything he did, and he took great pride in his craft. In retirement, Mark enjoyed cooking, working on cars, camping, and helping neighbors with their lawns, car repairs, and household chores.
Despite the many miles that separated Mark from his siblings, he rarely let a birthday, anniversary, or holiday go by without a phone call or text.
Mark will be missed by his many devoted friends who remained by his side throughout his illness, especially his "brother" Al Hart, and by his siblings: Lisa Taylor (William) of Jamestown, TN; Michael Serafini of Monona, WI; Paul Serafini (Lora) of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Linda Serafini of Sun Prairie, WI; and Chris Serafini (Ines) of Ocoee, FL, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elio V. Serafini in 1990, Francis Serafini in 2012, and Lucille Serafini in 1965.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held at a later date.
