Mark Settle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bridges Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2026.
Mark David Settle ("Diamond Jim") – age 73, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of the Knoxville area, Mark was a member of Fountain City United Methodist Church and a man who found joy in the simple, meaningful moments of everyday life.

Mark was an avid fisherman and a true tinkerer at heart - he really was Mr. Fix-It. There was not anything he couldn't repair, improve, or figure out with his own two hands. He loved playing cards, spinning slots at Harrah's Cherokee, cheering on all UT sports, and working in his garage and on his yard, where he also took great pleasure in feeding the squirrels and birds that frequented his home. Mark also spent countless lunches at Litton's with his closest friends, returning there almost every day. The "know-it-all" table was filled with good food, stories, laughter, and the comfort of familiar faces.

Above all else, Mark was a family man. He loved his family deeply and wholeheartedly, and his steady presence, kindness, generosity, and humor will be missed beyond words.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, J. Will and Betty Lou Woods Settle, and by his sister, Dana Christine ("Chris") Settle.

He is survived by his fabulous and beloved wife, Julie Gettelfinger Settle; his beautiful daughters, Anna Settle (Johnathan Richey) and Sydney Settle Minichiello (Richard); his cherished grandsons, J.B. and Jet Richey; his brothers, Jim (Carol) Settle and Jay Allen (Charlotte) Settle; his uncles O.L. Weaver and Jack Hill; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, all of whom he loved dearly.

Mark will be remembered not only for his many talents, but for the way he showed up for the people in his life. He was a good man - steady, loyal, and kind - who was generous beyond measure and never sought recognition or repayment. His legacy lives on in the skills he taught, the values he passed down, the friendships he nurtured, and the love he gave so freely to his family. Those who knew him were better for it.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Fountain City United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Segers and Rev. Rachel Collins officiating. A reception will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Inskip Baptist Church, 4810 Rowan Rd., Knoxville, TN 37912, or to Fountain City United Methodist Church, 212 Hotel Rd., Knoxville, TN 37918.

Mark,
What a man and friend he was. I heard about Mark for the better part of 25 years from his Nephew Bryan Claxton. He referred to My UNCLE Mark all the time and would tell me stories funny and serious stories. Mark was still working in those days doing what all real men do to help support their families. I was Blessed to meet Mark for the first time about 7 years ago and I do mean Blessed! He was everything rolled into one that I had heard about for years. A guy's guy a true Man that enjoyed to fish which tied us all together even more. From day one he treated me like a friend and at the same time he genuinely cared about who I was as a human being. We had some great times fishing together same boat different boats it didn't matter what the situation you just always knew Mark cared for his people his actions showed it. That infectious smile and head full of hair and laughter made things feel better all the time. I could randomly call him and he would offer help just because that was Mark! Mark did not know the meaning of short cut when he did something he done it to the best of his ability which was always above par. Mark could pretty much fix anything coming and going. I look back at things just from Facebook post that Crack Me Up like his trip to Vegas to support his daughter and spent time with her. In those pictures there was so much joy and laughing it was fun to see. Mark my dear friend I have felt like I have known you for 30 years you will be dearly missed. I can only pray that God makes more real People and Men like you that are genuine and care for others despite their downfalls and hangups.
Thank you for being my friend while you were here on this old earth!

Although we did not know each other for years and years like many of the relationships you have had in your life, it certainly felt like we went back a long way and were good friends for a very long time. That was something very special about you.
I am truly so happy that our families have come together And that Linda and I got to share in so many wonderful and happy times with you and Julie...I know that you will be watching over our kids from heaven.
Mark, you are indeed Knoxvilles favorite son and I will miss you dearly!
I´ll think of you when I listen to our favorite band and especially when I am learning to fish the lake!
Rest peacefully on your journey to a much better place.
Until we meet again,

Richard Minichiello

Mark Settle was a one of a kind human. Generous, kind, funny, smart; the list goes on. He was a good man to his core. Mark will be sorely missed by anyone who had the pleasure to know him. Rest in peace, the greatest father in-law a guy could ask for. We love you.

I remember Mark from Central High School. As a shy girl in high school, Mark was very kind to me and made me feel accepted. RIP Mark and prayers to your family.
